Dear Ones,

I have some historical information on William Blake, as well as a painting and a poem of his that are relevant. There is also a brief discussion of his stance at the end of the blog:

THE 19TH CENTURY ‘FREE LOVE’ MOVEMENT

“[William] Blake was critical of the marriage laws of his day, and generally railed against traditional Christian notions of chastity as a virtue. [73] At a time of tremendous strain in his marriage, in part due to Catherine’s apparent inability to bear children, he directly advocated bringing a second wife into the house. [74] His poetry suggests that external demands for marital fidelity reduce love to mere duty rather than authentic affection, and decries jealousy and egotism as a motive for marriage laws. Poems such as “Why should I be bound to thee, O my lovely Myrtle-tree?” and ‘Earth’s Answer’ seem to advocate multiple sexual partners. In his poem ‘London‘ he speaks of ‘the Marriage-Hearse’ plagued by ‘the youthful Harlot’s curse’, the result alternately of false Prudence and/or Harlotry. Visions of the Daughters of Albion is widely (though not universally) read as a tribute to free love since the relationship between Bromion and Oothoon is held together only by laws and not by love. For Blake, law and love are opposed, and he castigates the ‘frozen marriage-bed’.”

“EARTH’S ANSWER”: A POEM BY WILLIAM BLAKE

“Earth raised up her head
From the darkness dread and drear,
Her light fled,
Stony, dread,
And her locks covered with grey despair.

“Prisoned on watery shore,
Starry jealousy does keep my den
Cold and hoar;
Weeping o’er,
I hear the father of the ancient men.

“Selfish father of men!
Cruel, jealous, selfish fear!
Can delight,
Chained in night,
The virgins of youth and morning bear.

“Does spring hide its joy,
When buds and blossoms grow?
Does the sower
Sow by night,
Or the ploughman in darkness plough?

“Break this heavy chain,
That does freeze my bones around!
Selfish, vain,
Eternal bane,
That free love with bondage bound.”

PRACTICAL POLYAMORY VERSUS FREE LOVE: COMMENTS BY ALICE B. CLAGETT

I note that the Free Love movement has brought with it many social ills as well as community health issues; thus there is no easy answer for the question of feeling the heart and following the heart with regard to romantic love.

I note also that Blake’s stepping into the notion of polyamory may have had to do with the issue of child bearing, which was much more important, from a social perspective, in his day than it is now.  Thus his stance might be termed ‘pragmatic polyamory’ rather than free love as it is perceived in today’s context.

The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with the Sun . by William Blake . with comments by Alice B. Clagett

Written and published on 21 August 2014; revised on 18 August 2018

  • “THE GREAT RED DRAGON AND THE WOMAN CLOTHED WITH SUN,” BY WILLIAM BLAKE [version 1]
  • RELEVANT BIBLICAL CITATION: “THE WOMAN AND THE DRAGON,” Revelation 12:1-6
  • “THE GREAT RED DRAGON AND THE WOMAN CLOTHED WITH SUN” BY WILLIAM BLAKE [version 2]
  • SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS
  • DUALITY: WILL IT BE SERVICE TO SELF OR SERVICE TO OTHERS?
  • THE ETERNAL SOUL AND SOURCE

Dear Ones,

Here are two paintings representing “The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with the Sun.” Both are by William Blake. The relevant biblical quotation is cited. There is also a discussion of the topic of the paintings as it relates to the current state of the Ascension process …

“THE GREAT RED DRAGON AND THE WOMAN CLOTHED WITH SUN,” BY WILLIAM BLAKE [version 1]

Image: “The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with the Sun,” by William Blake, created between 1805 and 1810, in Wikimedia Commons … https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/William_Blake_003.jpg … A golden, winged woman, about to give birth, is kneeling with arms defensively outstretched, looking up at a big, muscular, beige-colored dragon hovering menacingly in the air just over her head. The dragon has human legs and arms, ram’s horns, wings, and a tail; it is wearing a simple, spiked crown.

So, hmm… I was wondering, was Blake saying that sexuality is demonic? Or what was this painting about? Then later I found out this is a depiction of a vision in Revelation Chapter 12:

RELEVANT BIBLICAL CITATION: “THE WOMAN AND THE DRAGON,” Revelation 12:1-6 KJV (public domain)

1 “And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

2 “And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

3 “And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

4 “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

5 “And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

6 “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.”

SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS

The second rendition of this painting (above) is a feeling that is being replicated in the recent End Times Hollywood movies. The theme is that of the black magic ‘rape and slaughter of the innocents’.

DUALITY: WILL IT BE SERVICE TO SELF OR SERVICE TO OTHERS?

This is one extreme in the Service to Self – Service to Others continuum that represents the choices in the duality play of the third dimension. These are, in fact, the choices on the table today: Which will you choose?

  • Will it be service to self?
  • Or will it be service to others?

The many timeline choices being offered in each person’s hologram today represent chances to choose, from a personal point of view. By choosing the one or the other, you create your own Awareness timeline.

There are those today who are engaging in the ‘rape and slaughter of the innocents’ and other Satanic bylines. In this way, they are creating a service-to-self timeline for themselves.

There are others who pray for peace on Earth, and envision love and light; these are creating a service to others timeline for themselves.

THE ETERNAL SOUL AND SOURCE

The choices are our own, and no one else’s, as the only relationship each of us has is with Source. The truest aspect we own is the eternal Soul; this our Soul is but a glimmer, a pale reflection, the Original Light of Creation, and that Light came from a potentiating Dark Mother or matrix, the nurturing almost-thought ready to spill forth joyfully, playfully, the countless iterations of her desire for relational experience.

One such iteration is you, in all the winsome, handsome, desireful beauty of your eternal Soul. But for what, O Soul, do you truly long? Here is the answer of the great Sufi poet Kabir, as sung by Snatam Kaur …
