Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru . A Song about Sailing through Karma . comments by Alice B. Clagett

Published on 27 February 2019

Dear Ones,

This is one of my favorite songs from the old days, when I studied kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan of Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization (3HO).

We would sing this song for hours. I especially liked the part about the Guru, our true Inner Light, having the power to carry us across what we used to term the ‘Terrible World Ocean’.

Snatam Kaur sings it differently from the way I learned it, but her melody is nice too, do you not you think? …

Video: “Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur – Miracles,” by Snatam Kaur – Topic, 24 February 2015 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW7xOdyWavE ..

Here are the lyrics and their translation …

Link: “Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru,” at Spirit Voyage … https://www.spiritvoyage.com/mantra/dhan-dhan-ram-das-guru/man-000032.aspx ..

In the above translation it looks to me as if what we used to call the Terrible World Ocean is more mildly termed the ‘sea of existence’.

One might think of all the ocean waves in the Terrible World Ocean as the strong emotions of Lust, Anger, Greed, Pride and Attachment.

Were it not for our devotion to our Inner Light, we would surely be shipwrecked. Or raft-wrecked, as the Sikh scriptures are always picturing the devotee on a small raft, in a wild, raging storm, with nothing but the Name of God between him and the briny deeps.

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars

  • FOR MORE INFORMATION

Dear Ones,

ON JEDUTHUN

I was reading Psalm 62 today, and I came across the name ‘Jeduthun’. That name stirred a Soul memory, from long ago, so I found out what I could about that man …

“A Levite of the family of Merari, and one of the three masters of music appointed by David. (1 Chr. 16:41, 42; 25:1-6) His office was generally to preside over the music of the temple service, Jeduthun’s name stands at the head of the 39th, 62nd and 77th Psalms, indicating probably that they were to be sung by his choir …

Heman and Jeduthun were responsible for the sounding of the trumpets and cymbals and for the playing of the other instruments for sacred song. (1 Chronicles 16:42)” –from “Jeduthun,” in Wikipedia …  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeduthun … CC-BY-SA 3.0

Here are the psalms before which his name stands …

PSALM 39: I WILL WATCH MY WAYS (KJV, public domain)

39 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

10 Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.

12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.

PSALM 62: WAITING ON GOD (KJV, public domain)

62  “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.

“He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

“How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

“They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

“He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

“In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

“Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

10  “Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

11 “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

12  “Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.”

PSALM 77: IN DISTRESS, I SOUGHT THE LORD (KJV, public domain)

77 “I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.

“In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.

“I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.

“Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

“I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.

“I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.

“Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?

“Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?

“Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.

10  “And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.

11  “I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.

12  “I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

13  “Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?

14  “Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.

15  “Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

16  “The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.

17  “The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.

18  “The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.

19  “Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.

20  “Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars

Zildjian Finger Cymbals for Clearing the Astral Air . by Alice B. Clagett

Published on 22 May 2018

Dear Ones,

Zildjian Finger Cymbals (the thick ones) are good for clearing the astral air …

Link: Zildjian Finger Cymbals (thick), on www.amazon.com … search the term: Zildjian Thick Finger Cymbals

They are also good for clearing personal space … like meditation space or bedroom. They amre portable, small and lightweight, and inexpensive. Can be used for travel to clear space, or in nature to attract nice nature spirits.

One way to use them is to strike the thin side of one cymbal against the flat side of another cymbal, either once or a number of times, then wait till a few minutes after you cease to hear the reverberation or ‘flutter’ of the sound in the air, after the sound itself ends.

That last reminds me of a time long ago … I was 16 years of age, and I went to visit some friends of the family … a man and wife living in an upscale sector of Washington DC. On a coffee table was a thin book of Zen. I had never heard of Zen before. As I was thumbing through it, the wife kindly offered it to me as a gift.

Being 16 and full of high hopes and expectations, I looked through the koens in the book, with a yen to crack one. I settled on this koen …

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

Baffled, I thought about it night and day. The more confused I got, the more determined I felt. Finally one evening, in a state of utmost mental frustration, I walked out into the night air, and looked up into the night sky. There I found my answer …

What is the sound of one hand clapping?
It is the New Moon in the arms of the Old.

Many years later, when I got my set of Zildjian finger cymbals, I found yet another answer …

What is the sound of one hand clapping?
It is the Sound when there is no Sound, after the last Sound has ended.

Dear Ones,

Alice’s Childhood Nightmare About Monsters in the Closet

I remember when I was a child, I woke up one night in the middle of one of those vivid childhood nightmares … Maybe some of you might have had such an experience in youth?

At any rate, I woke up, sat straight up in bed. It was pretty dark in the room, but I could see the faint outlines of the furniture. My sister was sleeping peacefully across the room from me. But my childhood self, fresh from the seemingly true nightmare, was just thrumming with fear energy.

I looked across the room at my closet door. It was slightly ajar. Inside the closet looked pitch dark. In a sudden illogical magical leap, I became convinced that monsters were hiding in my closet!

I sat there for I don’t know how long, just petrified. After what seemed like forever, my logical mind kicked in.

I said to myself, ‘Ok, so there may possibly be monsters in the closet. Why don’t you just get up, walk over there, and close the closet door tightly? Then they won’t be able to get out, and you can go back to sleep safely.’

So that’s what I did. I still remember … every step I took toward the closet door was like walking into a solid wall of fear, and then through it, on to the next step and the next wall of fear. When I got to the closet door, in a surge of will power, I grabbed the handle of the door and pulled it shut! Then, shuddering in the relief as my feeling of terror subsided, I went back to bed.

Alice’s Vision of Archangel Michael Standing at the Foot of My Bed

Every night for the next few weeks, I closed the closet door firmly before I went to bed. Then one night I woke up again in the middle of the night. It was as if I had been summoned to awaken. The room was full of a gentle, diffused light.

At the foot of my bed, on the righthand side, was a beautiful, gentle being. I knew immediately it was my longtime protector and wise adviser, Archangel Michael. I felt love and light flow from this blessed presence into my heart. This beautiful being bade me remember his words: “I know it’s hard for you right now. But don’t forget, I’m always watching over you. One day, after you are older, we will meet again.” And then he bade me go back to sleep.

After the night I had that beautiful vision, the closet was just the closet. There was nothing in it but my clothes, my shoes, and my childhood treasures, such as beautiful rocks, arrowheads, and like that.

So today, in remembrance of that early childhood experience, I made up a little song. My baptismal seraph was the inspiration; in fact, I have a feeling that my sylph was singing that song to me all through my childhood and older years, when it was a baby sylph, slumbering peacefully in my heart …
