China and the United States: Human Rights and Illegal Immigration . by Alice B. Clagett

Published on 31 October 2017

Dear Ones,

Here is a video about China and the United States, and their views on human rights and illegal immigration.

There is an edited Summary after the video …

VIDEO BY ALICE

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

It’s Alice. I Am of the Stars.

I’m here to talk a little about human rights and human trafficking in China and in the United States. The ‘take’ that I have so far is what you might call only a beginner’s ‘take’.

I became interested in China’s annual reports on the United States’ infringement of human rights a few years ago. I was just looking over the most recent one this last month. (1) This is my précis:

I think China states that America falls down in human rights with regard to equal pay for women, discrimination against minorities (to do with economics, especially), and also, as I recall, with regard to crime and violence in the streets, and drug use and the drug trade and so forth.

There may be other things. But the underlying understanding that I got from looking over that report was that, in China, I feel, they greatly value an orderly society, a harmony in society, and like that. To my mind, it feels like they look aghast at the disorderliness of the American people.

And I will say that the people here are very different in their social values, from the people of China, apparently … from the Chinese ideal of values. People in the United States value more the liberty to go exploring and figuring things out, and making a way for themselves, and so forth. They value their freedom to pursue their happiness, and like that.

To my mind, a natural consequence of this value of liberty and the pursuit of happiness is the disorderliness that we see in this society.

In addition, we offer a chance for other people, from other parts of the world, to become citizens. That results in cultural diversity. And in some geographic areas it results in discrimination, because people who are all of a particular race or culture, or like that, are confronted … suddenly sometimes … with people whose culture is very different … or perhaps their physical characteristics are very different. And then there’s a commotion as the cultures become accustomed to each other.

In the cosmopolitan areas it’s different. There’s much more exposure to diversity. And so people don’t react so much to diversity when they see it. Unless you’re in an area like South Central Los Angeles, where everybody is de colores, and so then a white person, a Caucasian, comes in, and they look very different. Or if you’re in West Los Angeles, it’s the exact opposite, you know?

We have here a randomness, a drive to individuality, the Horatio Alger story, and these create less harmony, in a way, but more tolerance for diversity, in another way.

So then I thought: I’ll just see what the United States has to say about human rights, and so forth. So I checked out the “CIA Factbook.” And there, there’s a section on Countries … each Country. I especially looked up the United States first, and then China … among others.

For each Country, there are various sections. After Government and so forth, there’s a section that has to do with global problems with some portion of which the particular country is faced.

If we live in the United States, we all know about the United States Government system. So I looked up the last section, labeled “Transnational Issues,” as I couldn’t quite fathom what it would be about. (2)

What it said is the we, in the United States, are facing problems with the drug trade. Also it said we have problems with money laundering, which is a concept I’m not too clear on.

It didn’t mention crime and violence, but everybody knows that there are problems with crime and violence here, and in other parts of the world.

Then I looked under China. There the “CIA Factbook” indicated intertwined global problems, especially human trafficking. (3)

So then I looked up a very recent congressional report on human trafficking (4) and a  horrifying State Department report on human trafficking all around the world (5) … and I got a notion about what that entailed. It had to do, not just with children being sold for the sex work trade, but also children being sold into hazardous occupations that involved the use of chemicals that might be damaging to the body, and so forth. And sometimes, children die because of their exposure to difficult work conditions, and so forth. I’m not sure of the mortality rate; I didn’t go into it that far.

I was thinking this over quite a bit, because here we have a conundrum. China is stating that the United States falls down on human rights. And yet China is very big on human trafficking.

And so I looked a little more into human trafficking in China, and found out there were a lot of Korean refugees that pleaded to be admitted to China. Then, in the “CIA Factbook” for China, I found out that China only allows people of Chinese descent, or Chinese parentage, to become Chinese citizens. It’s a closed society.

So, China was faced with Koreans and other nationalities who, to them, are a different culture and a different race from them … who are what you might call illegal aliens … many illegal aliens … entering their country; and what to do with them, because their government could not accommodate them. And so their decision, based, I feel, on their very high ideals of harmony … harmonic relations in the world … was to create a kind of indentured servant system … what we call ‘human trafficking’ … to provide these people with a basis of work in the world … a productive social role … in exchange for the most fundamental human needs, such as shelter, clothing, and food.

On the trip up to Ojai today, I kept thinking about this. I kept thinking: What is the connection here? What is the story? You know? How could it be that two big countries … gigantic as far as geography is concerned … should both hold forth that their government offered the very best in human rights … And yet, each could accuse the other of being the very worst in human rights. It just didn’t make any sense to me.

And finally, I thought of the illegal alien situation here in California, and in other parts of the United States. And I realized that the situation that China faced with regard to the Korean immigrants, was very similar to the situation that the United States faces with regard to the influx of illegal aliens from South of the Border.

So then I looked at how the United States treats its illegal aliens, compared to how China treats hers. And I realized that, in general, we hunt them down and deport them back to their countries if we can. (I’ve read that China does this with Korean refugees as well.)

Now, as to which system …

  • deportation, or what’s sometimes termed repatriation,
  • or human trafficking,
  • or some version of that …  maybe a more lenient version of that, such as indentured servitude, that was practiced for a limited term in order for a person to learn a skill or trade, during the times of Benjamin Franklin in America

… is the more understanding, or connecting with, human rights, I don’t know!

One is based on a very orderly notion of civilization and human affairs … that’s the Chinese.

And the other, the United States way, is based on a kind of a free-for-all, you know? Every man for himself, in a way. Of course, we’re very socialized now, and we offer many socialized services to our citizens. But the big concern, in recent years, has been:

How can we afford to offer these socialized benefits to people who aren’t contributing to our tax base. And I think that’s a reasonable consideration:

How can we stay afloat economically, and still assimilate what was called, in ages past, the poor and huddled masses of the world? In those days, when we opened our doors to everyone, we had plenty of free land that needed settling. But now, our urban centers are very overpopulated, and our social services are very overstretched.

So the question is: What can we do? What can we do, to do the best by these people that come knocking our door; the most humane thing that we can do? But at the same time, something that keeps our country afloat. You know what I mean?

So there you have it. I think that the basis of the concern that both countries have, has to do with how to treat our illegal aliens.

In love, light and joy
This is Alice B. Clagett.
I Am of the Stars … and so are you!

  • LISTS OF SURVIVAL SUPPLIES

Dear Ones,

In the event power grids went down because of a Carrington event, an earthquake, a hurricane, or other natural disasters, it is good to have basic survival supplies. Here is a concise blog on the essentials for survival.

ALICE’S SHORT, COST-EFFECTIVE LIST OF EMERGENCY SUPPLIES        top

I have done some research on short-term emergency food and water supplies, and have a few less-well-known but quite interesting favorites to reveal to you …

Fats

  • Ghee, or clarified butter, is a good source of fats, and keeps, after the jar is opened, for 3 months without refrigeration. With refrigeration (which might be one of the non-electric refrigeration methods mentioned below), it can keep for about a year. You can make your own clarified butter, or buy it: see, for example, “Deep Pure Cow Ghee Clarified Butter from India, 64 Ounce,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
  • Another robustly caloric source of fat is bacon drippings, strained. These keep 3 weeks without refrigeration, according to the internet. However, in my youth, we kept a metal container of it at the back of the stove; we never refrigerated it, and it was always good.

Complex Carbohydrates

  • Instant mashed potatoes keep for a year or a year and a half at room temperature. A meal can be prepared from them by just boiling water. There are 40-pound bags of potato flakes available online. See, for example, “Instant Potato Flakes, Bulk 40 Lb. Case,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
  • The price of these has gone up in the last year.
  • Among complex carbohydrates, here is another option: Instant rice is available at Walmart. This product is more cost-effective in bulk; see, for example, “Saratoga Farms Instant Rice ValueBUCKET (1/2 cup servings size/186 Total Servings),” at Amazon  … https://amazon.com ..
  • Pastas and bottled tomato sauces are also good complex carbohydrate staples

Protein

  • Walmart has pretty good deals on powdered milk, which keeps at room temperature about 2 years, if kept away from heat.
  • Canned, condensed milk is a country staple; since it usually has sugar in it, as well as protein, it would be good for making deserts.
  • Canned baked beans are also pretty cheap at Walmart, and hearty. Smaller cans are better, because less subject to spoilage after opening
  • Bugs, including …
    • Crickets and grasshoppers: Pull off heads, carefully remove entrails, legs and wings, and then dry roast
    • Ants: Boil 6 minutes to neutralize formic acid
    • Termites: Shake them out of a rotten log, and roast them in a pan
    • Grubs: Pull them out of a rotten log, skewer and cook over flame till crispy on the outside
    • Sow bugs: Boil thoroughly so as to kill any parasites in them. Do not drink the boiling water; just eat the cooked bugs
    • Earthworms, stink bugs, and scorpions are also said to be edible when properly prepared, but I will pass on those.

Greens

  • Weeds Many wild area weeds and most city weeds are edible; however, many require cooking. Weeds are regional; look online for weeds in your area, and recipes for them.
    • For instance, this book looks pretty good for Los Angeles wild areas: “Southern California Food Plants: Wild Edibles of the Valleys, Foothills, Coast and Beyond the Valleys, Foothills, Coast, and Beyond,” by Charles W. Kane, at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
    • And here are some edible Los Angeles city weeds: chickweed, dandelion, fennel, lamb’s quarters, purslane, red clover and sorrel: I would go to Google Images and print out photos of each of these.
    • If it tastes bitter or tough, it will need to be cooked. If you are not sure, if it smells odd or repugnant, or if the leaves are blue-green, do not eat it.
  • Sprouts are a great source of greens. You will need sproutable alfalfa seeds, and also a sprouter. Sprouters come in two varieties: fancy and down-home.
    • Here is an example of the fancy ones: “Deluxe Kitchen Crop 4-Tray Seed Sprouter by VICTORIO VKP1200,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
    • .. It looks to me like the top tray might be watered, and then the water might trickle down through the various trays, and out the bottom? If so, this would be ideal, as it would help prevent rot and mildew. Water daily. Keep in a shady window so they will germinate.
    • Here is a down-home sprouter: Put your alfalfa seeds in a mason jar. Cut a piece of cloth mesh or cheesecloth, and put it over the jar opening. Screw on the ring, but not the cap. Add water daily, swirl around, let the water drain out, and keep in a shady window so they will germinate.
  • Seaweeds. See Link: “Where to Harvest Seaweed and How to Eat It,” 14 October 2015 … https://www.foragesf.com/blog/2015/10/14/where-to-harvest-seaweed-and-how-to-eat-it ..

Water

  • There are one-time-use water containers that can be placed in your bathtub and filled with water for short-term emergency storage: look online for the WaterBob (100 gallon capacity) and Aquapod (60 gallon capacity). One would think that a good stopper for the tub would suffice, but if the stopper should leak, all the water will be lost. Better safe than sorry. Before drinking this water or using it for food preparation, though, purify or boil it (see below).
  • You can also fill your sinks with water, using either a water-tight container in the sink, or a sink stopper. As above, before drinking this water or using it for food preparation, purify or boil it (see below).
  • By way of additional storage, you can reuse gallon water containers by filling them with water. Add 8 drops of Clorox regular (not scented) bleach per gallon, shake it up, and let stand for 30 minutes before consuming. Before drinking this water or using it for food preparation, purify or boil it (see below).
  • Here’s a backup water storage method to use in case your bathtub water system fails, through a leak happening with the WaterBob or the Aquapod, or the tub stopper. If you live in a house and have local trash collection, it is possible to store water in your trash bin. The advantage of these bins, in Los Angeles, is that they are made of very sturdy plastic, and have wheels and lids. The disadvantage is that the lids are not lockable or airtight. We have 3 kinds of trash bins here in Los Angeles: One for trash, another for yard clippings, and another for recyclables. In a pinch, the cleanest of these bins could be washed out and filled with water for drinking and cooking. The next most clean could be washed out and filled with water for personal hygiene. The third and dirtiest trash bin could be washed out and filled with water to pour into the toilet bowl to flush the toilet. Water so stored must be purified or boiled before being used for food or drink (see below).
  • If you have no trash bins, a very good backup water-storage system is the kind of plastic outdoor wheeled trashcan with a locking lid. If you do not have that, then a very sturdy plastic trash basket or plastic bin from a dollar store, may be of use, but care ought to be exercised to buy one sturdy enough that it will not collapse with the weight of the water. Water so stored must be purified or boiled before being used for food or drink (see below), and covered between uses to prevent contamination.
  • If there is no deodorant disk or other chemicals in your toilet tank, the water in the tank can be drunk. Water so stored must be purified or boiled before being used for food or drink (see below).

How to Purify Water Before Drinking It Or Using It for Cooking

  • Keep on hand “Potable Aqua Water Tablets,” sold at Amazon  … https://amazon.com … and elsewhere. These can be used to purify stored water.
  • An inexpensive substitute for “Potable Aqua Water Tablets” is Clorox Regular Bleach (not the scented kind, or any other kind but regular, as these latter contain chemicals that may harm you). The rule of thumb is: 2 drops of Clorox Regular Bleach per quart of water, 8 drops per gallon, and so on. You could also use New Concentrated Clorox Regular Bleach instead: 2 drops of New Concentrated Clorox Regular Bleach per quart of water, or 6 drops per gallon of water. Shake or mix thoroughly after adding, and then let sit 30 minutes before using. See Link: “Emergency Disinfection of Drinking Water,” by EPA, 24 June 2024 … https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/emergency-disinfection-drinking-water ..
  • If you run out of water tablets and Clorox, or if you do not like their taste, and the water you have on hand is cloudy, let it settle, then separate the top part, that is clear, and strain it through a cloth. Next, boil it at a rolling boil for at least one minute, then let it cool, then drink.
  • Even for clear water … as from the tub or the toilet tank … it would be best to boil it at a rolling boil for one minute, then let it cool, then drink.
  • For those with a bigger budget, there is the LifeStraw Family 1.0 Water Purifier, a drinking water filter that hands on the wall or on the shower railing; it is said to be good for 3 years of water purifying. Smaller versions are also available. Sold at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..

Beverages

  • Teas, the ingredients for which can also be garnered in the wild
  • Instant coffee, instant Coffeemate, sugar

Desserts

  • Jello, or
  • Add condensed milk to instant rice

Spices

  • Iodized salt, to prevent goiter
  • Ground black pepper, which is said, in India, to purify the blood
  • Dried citrus peel or ‘zest’, to use in sun tea … a good source of Vitamin C, which prevents scurvy. Dehydrate your own citrus peels, or see “Frontier Orange Peel Granules Certified Organic, 16 Ounce Bag,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
  • Rose hips, wild or cultivated; also a good source of Vitamin C
  • Dried onion and garlic, said to be good for their mild antibiotic qualities of their ingredient allicin.
  • Fenugreek seeds, said to be good for fever, stomach disorders, diabetes, insomnia, inflammations, and wounds
  • Radish seeds, cultivated or wild, roasted and smashed; or radish seed pods (green), raw or cooked … said to prevent cancer, and also to be good for fatigue, indigestion, and as a blood cleanse

Fire Starting

  • Several large boxes of wooden strike-on-box matches: Here is an image of that type of matches (which are relatively hard to find in the stores) … https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Welthoelzer_DZMG.jpg ..
  • In case the matches run out: magnesium fire starter; see “SE FS374 All-Weather Emergency 2-IN-1 Fire Starter & Magnesium Fuel Bar (Everything you need to start a fire!),” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
  • Magnifying glass or fresnel lenses to start a fire with sunshine; for the latter, see “Fresnel Lens 4-Pack Credit Card Size Pocket Magnifier & Firestarter,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..

Body Heat

  • Have blankets on hand to preserve body heat in cold weather.
  • If you do not have blankets, wear your warmest clothes, and get into a big black leaf bag to preserve body heat
  • Layers of newspapers  can act as emergency blankets
  • Have firewood on hand, if you have a fireplace. See also, fire starting, above

Cooking Heat

  • Have charcoal on hand if you have a barbecue.
  • A sterno stove and sterno cans are a cheap source of cooking heat in a short-term emergency. Available at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..

Sanitation

  • Keep plenty of emergency toilet paper supplies on hand.
    • A face towel or kitchen towel, which will be washable, will do in a pinch.
    • In the old days, people used to use corn cobs and pages torn from phone catalogs instead of toilet paper.
    • A handful of grass can also be used.
  • If you have plenty of water, then some can be poured directly in the toilet to flush it, even if your house water is not working.
  • If you do not have water, buy big, black yard bags to line the toilet with, and dispose of the bags when full.
  • If you have access to dirt, you can dig a simple pit for a squat toilet. Throw a little dirt in after every use. When full, put dirt over and dig another hole.

Planning Together as a Family for a Natural Disaster

Families have special concerns about getting in touch with each other during a natural disaster. See … Link: “Pragmatic Prophecy: On Planning with Family for a Natural Disaster,” by Alice B. Clagett, written and published on 11 September 2017; updated on 3 February 2023 and on 2 October 2024 … https://wp.me/p2Rkym-7Db ..

Neighborhood Watch for Crime Prevention

Neighborhood Watch programs are an excellent way to build community spirit and prevent crime during natural disasters.

It is best to meet neighbors in advance, elect a Neighborhood Watch block captain, attend the meetings held for community members at your local police department, and keep the communication lines open with neighbors through programs such as Nextdoor.com … https://nextdoor.com/

That way, when an emergency arises, you will already know your neighbors.

In addition, you may get to know which folks on your block may need special help during an emergency … such as the housebound, those with young children, and so on.

First Aid

  • Western Medicine First Aid Book, with simple illustrations. Red Cross has a good one.
  • Alternative Medicine Books: Books for moxibustion, acupuncture, and acupressure, and herbal medicine using wild herbs local to your area.
  • Psychology/Psychiatry … Here is a wonderful yogic resource for psychological self-help in times of crisis, when no psychologist or psychiatrist, and no psychopharmacological medications may be available: Link: “Crisis Kit,” by Kundalini Research Institute … https://www.harisingh.com/KRI_Crisis_Kit.pdf good for both men and women, I feel.
  • Pregnancy and Childbirth
    • Herb for Abortion and to Induce Labor: Watercress (Nasturtium officinale) grows wild in Los Angeles riparian habitats, including canals. It is an edible wild; but care must be taken while pregnant, as it induces abortion. At term, I have heard it can be used to induce labor.  Here is a photo of watercress … https://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/plants/Brassicaceae/Watercress%20(Nasturtium%20officinale)/William%20R%20Mason%20Regional%20Park,%20Irvine,%20CA%208-28-11%20004.jpg ..
    • Childbirth: Optimum Fetal Positioning. Childbirth is bound to happen, and there may be no doctors available in time. In a survival situation, position of the fetus during childbirth has a lot to do with survival of mother and child during childbirth. As I understand it, a breech baby is life-threatening in a survival situation. There are ways to turn the baby in the womb for optimum fetal positioning;
    • Delayed Umbilical Cord Cutting. As well, do not cut the umbilical cord until it stops pulsating and turns white; the cord supplies the newborn with vital nutrients for a little while after birth.
  • First Aid Kit. Be sure and pack …
    • a big bottle of One-a-Day vitamin mineral supplements
    • a big bottle of aspirin or ibuprofen,
    • Midol for cramps,
    • plenty of contraceptives and contraceptive ointments,
    • bandaids, gauze bandaging, extra tubes of 3-way antibiotic ointment
    • Nitrile or Latex Exam Gloves, available at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
    •  These are either sterile or nonsterile; the latter is much less expensive, but not as safe in preventing infection.
    • Pepto Bismol for heartburn, indigestion, nausea, upset stomach and diarrhea
    • and Castor Oil, which is antibacterial and antifungal, and strengthens the immune system. It is also laxative, cathartic, and purgative. It also induces abortion. At term, I’ve heard it can be used to induce labor.
    • Target has Betadine (povidone-iodine) 10%, which would be good as a hand wash before treating wounds and assisting with childbirth, and also as a wound disinfectant and infection preventive for the vagina after childbirth. Read the instructions to find out whether it ought to be diluted before being applied.
    • Povidone-iodine 2.5% can be used to treat eye infections in newborns caused by Chlamydia and bacteria.  A 10% solution would need to be diluted to 1/4 the sold strength to be used for the eyes of newborns, and apparently ought to be pure; for instance. it should contain no detergent; see Link: “The Ocular Application of Povidone-Iodine,” by Sherwin J Isenberg, MD, and Leonard Apt MD, 2003; 16(46): 30–31 … https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1705857/ ..
    • Moxa Rolls (Amazon … https://amazon.com .. has these) for moxibustion; acupuncture needles, and instructions
  • Wild Herb to Staunch Wound Bleeding. Note that the root of yarrow (Achillea millefolium), which grows wild in most parts of the United States, can be used to staunch the flow of blood in wounds. It is also anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and pain relieving.

Tools

It is always good to keep on hand plenty of hand tools (as opposed to power tools, which will not be useful for long in an extended emergency situation. This ought to include …

  • woodworking tools,
  • building tools,
  • brickworking tools,
  • animal husbandry tools, and
  • gardening tools
  • cooking and food preparation tools … the usual, and also including …
    • including a mortar and pestle for grinding dried herbs and seeds,
    • and a rolling pin and bread-rolling board

Weapons

Firearms will not be much help in a long-term survival situation, because bullets will be scarce. Instead, I suggest buying …

  • Knives, both for defense and for survival activities
  • Slingshot and ammo balls (clay, steel, or both).
    • Consider getting the collapsible slingshot with a wrist support, extra latex tubing, and extra slings.
    • Consider buying a slingshot with a removable arrow guide, such as the “Marksman Pocket Hunter,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
    • Or, if you have a slingshot without a removable arrow guide, your slingshot can be converted to a bow which works for up to about 10 yards, for hunting small and large game and for fishing. Lightweight, portable substitute for a  bow, and is easy to use in confined quarters, such as thickets. You will need …
      • 4 wide, thick rubberbands (#64, for example),
      • 1 keyring (1 inch diameter might be good)
      • and arrows. The fletching (feathers) on the arrows needs to be able to slide without much friction through the keyring. Used arrows are ok. I’ve heard that even duct tape can be used for fletching, in a pinch. Note that arrows have different tips for practice, small game, large game and fishing. Weight of tips also varies. Blunt tips can be used to stun small game, and these are easier to make.
      • Here are videos showing how to do the conversion …
  • 2 good bows, within your own drawing strength, along with spare string and plenty of arrows. See note on arrow tips under slingshot, above.  Also, extra fletching and fletching glue.
  • Crossbow and arrows, if your budget allows it, along with spare parts.
  • Atlatl (spear-thrower) and fletched darts … see, for example, “Nanticoke Atlatl (Simple) and Three Five Foot Fletched Darts,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
  • Boomerang … for example, the “Fury Martial Arts All-Wood Boomerang (22 -Inch)” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..
  • looks like a good length.
  • Spear
  • Bo staff or club to be used as a weapon …
    • Hardwood bo’s are available online; for example, at SparringGearSet … https://www.sparringgearset.com/ … and at Karate Supply (search: bo staff) … https://www.karatesupply.com/ ..
    • a sturdy, 6-foot length of hardwood dowel may be an inexpensive substitute. If only pine dowel is available at your local lumberyard or hardware store, make sure there are no knots or imperfections in the wood, and that the outside is finished (to avoid getting splinters in your hand). Pine is not very strong, so it might be best to get another length or two of 6-foot dowel in case your bo breaks.
    • A wooden baseball bat is a good, inexpensive club. These can be found at thrift stores, and are good for short-range combat, and especially help women, children, and older people even the odds.
  • Ma: It is much to the advantage of women, children, and older people to stay outside the reach (or ma) of a potential assailant, however. In practical terms, this means at least 3 feet away, and 5 feet away if the person is lithe and combative. Thus the baseball bat is best used as defense at a doorway or in a hallway, if there is not other form of defense. There the bo, which is longer, could not be used freely.

Twine, Rope, Duct Tape, Trash Bags, and Tarps

These supplies are very useful in emergencies.

  • Twine and rope have a hundred uses, ongoing, and are time-consuming to fabricate by hand.
  • Duct tape has a limited shelf life, but is a good emergency supply for on-the-road car repairs and for short-term emergencies.
  • Trash bags can be used to store food, can be placed over open water containers to keep the water clean, and can be used to hold waste till trash collection resumes.
  • Tarp can keep your roof rain-proof, even when damaged, and to keep firewood and equipment dry even when it is stored outside.

Spare Lumber, Nails, and Screws

Spare lumber is useful for boarding up broken windows and doors, for instance.

  • 3/4 inch plywood sheeting, 2x4s, and planking
  • Several kegs of nails, including roofing tacks, 8 penny nails, 10 penny nails, and mason nails
  • Screws in assorted sizes

Getting Viable Seed for a Vegetable Garden

In recent years, I have had trouble raising vegetables from seeds bought at hardware stores. Is this a Monsanto thing? Have I lost the knack?

If you have been having the same trouble, it might be good to ask around and find a viable source of vegetable and grain seeds to keep on hand in the event a truck garden comes in handy.

Viable seed might also be a good form of barter in the event of a longer-term survival situation. It would be a ‘cash crop’ … planting viable seed would produce more viable seed, which could once more be used for barter.

Canning Supplies and Solar Food Dehydrators

Of course, it would be good to brush up on canning skills, and to have on hand mason jars with good lids, and maybe a solar food dehydrator.

Amazon … www.amazon.com … sells both.

For the food dehydrator, to prevent fly specks, it might be good to buy

Cheesecloth, Muslin Cloth, Clothes Fabric, and Coat Fabric

In a long-term survival situation, lengths or bolts of these fabrics would be very helpful.

  • Cheesecloth is useful for cooking: in making cheese, in canning, in straining, and so on.
  • Muslin is good for making diapers for babies and undergarments for everyone. It can also be used and reused for menstrual pads.
  • A bolt each of clothes fabric and coat fabric could provide for clothing and outerware needs for several years.

These supplies can be bought as yardage from Amazon … https://amazon.com … or fabric stores.

Treadle Sewing Machine

If there is no electricity, then a traditional treadle (foot-powered) sewing machine would be a good choice.

It looks like Lehman’s offers these new at … https://www.lehmans.com/product/traditional-sewing-machine-cabinet-and-treadle/ ..

Cloth Loom and Spinning Wheel

Cloth looms and spinning wheels are pretty expensive, but I feel they might be an important staple, and a skill to use in bartering for needed supplies in a survival situation.

Anyone can buy a book on how to build these items, and blueprints might serve very well in future. For example …

Link: “Anyone Can Build a Spinning Wheel,” by W. C. West (1975-06-01) … https://www.amazon.com/dp/0913664065/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= … May be available used at a reasonable price. I gather from the web page that this is a blueprint book.

The loom-building books I found online look pretty daunting to me … perhaps less so to a handyman. I gather from reader comments that this is a pretty good book …

FISHING        top

Fishing Rod, Fish Catching Net, and Bait

Fishing Rod Kits. Fishing rod kits are available at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..

It is good to get a good fishing rod repair kit too, and extra line, hooks, and sinkers.

Fish Catching Net. It would be good to get a fish-catching net too, as many good suppers have been lost for want of a good fish net. I like the ones with telescoping handles and a flat bottom edge, such as “Fiblink Folding Aluminum Fishing Landing Net Fish Net with Extending Telescoping Pole Handle” available at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..

Bait. Without bait, there is no way to fish. This video suggests putting crushed green-walnut husks in a trash cup of water, turning over a rotten log, and pouring the water on the ground. Worms do not like the green-walnut-scented water, and come up for easy catching …

Video: “walnut husk secret for catching worms, and illegal for fish,” by Billy Joe Denny, 31 July 2014 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M35erdt_r7E ..

Worms do not like being flooded with water, so if you do not have green-walnut husks handy, try turning over a rotten log and then just pouring lots of water there; with luck, worms will surface for catching.

Fish Traps and Cast Nets

Fish Traps. Everyone thinks of fishing rods, but the easy way to get seafood on the table is a fish trap,

  • Whether half-dome shaped, for estuarial or still water trapping, such as this one:

“Goture Portable Folded Fishing Net Fish Shrimp Minnow Crayfish Crab Baits Cast Mesh Trap automatic,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..

  • Or cylindrical in shape, for faster moving waters. This one looks good and sturdy: “Tomahawk Rigid Single Door Extra Large Fish Trap,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com ..

Minnow and Crawdad Traps. Minnows are a staple of Asian diets, and far more plentiful and available than larger fish. Thus I feel a minnow trap might come in handier than most people think.

See, for example, “Frabill Minnow Trap, 8 x 8 x 18-Inch, Black,” at Amazon … https://amazon.com … or at Walmart … https://www.walmart.com/ ..

There are other sturdy-looking minnow traps on Amazon as well.

Here is another good minnow and crawdad trap at Amazon: “RUNNACC Portable Folded Fishing Net Zipper Net Shrimp Carp Crayfish Crab Baits Cast Mesh Trap, Black”

Cast Nets. There are also cast nets, which worked quite well for Christ and his apostles, and might work fine for us as well, in a survival situation.

For example, this is available on Amazon: “Goture American Saltwater Fishing Cast Net for Bait Trap Fish 4ft/6ft/8ft/10ft/12ft Radius, 3/8inch Mesh Size” … This technique is illegal in freshwater in many areas of the United States, as I understand it.

Crab Dip Nets. Crab dip nets are also good for those who live near salt-water estuaries.

Pipe-and-Pit Fish Trap. Here is a pipe-and-pit fish trap that is used, in various renditions, quite a lot in Cambodia. Cambodia must have lots of very still, shallow bodies of fish-filled water, is what I think. Still, it is good to know about this technique …

Video: “The first Trap Can Catch Alot of fish & Crabs And Eels By 5 Bambo With deep Hole,” by Trap Fishing, 23 September 2020 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=YUWZmRi-89M ..

Wild Plants That Are Fish Toxins

There are wild plants in many areas that can be used to stun fish, so that they float to the surface of a pool, and can be caught while immobile. This technique is illegal, as I understand it.

Wild Cucumber Root. The crushed root of the California wild cucumber vine is said to be one such plant, but I do not know anyone who has tried to stun fish with it.

Link: “The Arroyo Sage: Plant Profile – Wild Cucumber,” by Tim Martinez, 24 December 2014 … https://arroyosage.blogspot.com/2014/12/plant-profile-wild-cucumber.html ..

Green Walnut Husks. Green walnut husks are also apparently fish toxins; if so, they might be put in a basket and lowered in a pool to stun fish in a survival situation. Walnut trees grow wild in California and on the East Coast of the United States. This technique is illegal, as I understand it.

TRAPPING ANIMALS        top

Trapping animals has this advantage over shooting them: You do not need to keep a firearm in good repair, and you will not run out of bullets.

Trapping has its pro and con …

  • Pro: You can catch your dinner while taking a nap.
  • Con: Some varmint can come along and steal your trapped animals while you are gone.

Simple Deadfall Trap. Further, in most areas of the world, traps can be made out of local materials. Trapping is still being done in Siberia using local materials. Here is a simple trap …

The most important things in this category are …

  • Books for your region of the country showing pictures of edible plants, berries, nuts and grains, and with recipes on how to prepare them, and
  • Hands-on field experience trekking round your area, gathering and preparing wild foods

TRANSPORTATION OF GOODS        top

I suggest learning these primitive transport skills …

Travois for animals (including dogs) and people to carry loads: See Link: “Travois,” in Wikipedia … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travois ..

Tumpline, to utilize power of spine in carrying loads: See Link: “Tumpline,” in Wikipedia … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tumpline ..

Sleds: Instructions for horse-drawn sleds can be had through Mother Earth News: See Link: “Build a Horse-Drawn Work Sled,” by Gladys Mackey Beattie, 7 October 2022 … https://www.motherearthnews.com/diy/build-a-horse-drawn-sled-zm0z80jfzraw/ ..

A sled can also be improvised by …

  • buying a heavy duty plastic utility tub and rope at a home improvement store,
  • then drilling holes high up at either end of one side,
  • passing a length of cord through both holes,
  • tying a knot on the inside to keep the cord in the holes,
  • and then using the rope as a handle to pull the tub.
  • The tub can also be used for water or food storage, cement- or clay-mixing, etc.

The Troika is a variation on the sled theme, for use in snow

EDUCATION FOR POSSIBLE TOUGH TIMES AHEAD        top

My feeling is, considering the high price of college education and the relative lack of skilled jobs in the American economy, it might be better to put one’s educational money into learning trades and skills that would be useful in a sustainable living scenario.

Schools and Apprentice Jobs Teaching Skills and Trades for Tough Times

Schools and apprentice jobs that teach these skills are tops on my list for young folks today:

  • firestarting, firebuilding, clay oven building
  • digging wells, sanitizing water, making solar water stills
  • sanitary disposal of waste: latrines, pit-toilets, composting of wastes, utilization of human wastes in gardens
  • fishing, tracking, hunting, trapping, butchering, and tanning skins
  • farming, including primitive crop irrigation techniques such as the water lift and the shadoof
  • bee-keeping
  • animal husbandry, especially care of chickens, ducks, rabbits and goats for eggs, fur, meat, and milk
  • travois-building for animals and for people to use to transport goods
  • ironworking, knife-, sword- and arrow-tip forging, welding, and horse-shoeing
  • weapon making, especially knives, swords, bows and arrows, crossbows, atlatls (spear-throwers), slingshots, staffs or bos, and boomerangs
  • tool-making
  • first aid, naturopathy, and herbal medicine using local herbs, midwifery skills, bonesetting and cast-making skills
  • cooking, including solar cooking, minimalist third-world cooking techniques, and cooking on a wood-burning stove
  • canning, and dehydrating food
  • primitive methods of keeping food cold, such as root cellars, ice sloughs and ice houses, window sill trays half filled with water, with a cloth cover dipped in, and pot-in-pot coolers
  • water mill building and use … for grinding grain
  • spinning, weaving, knitting, and sewing
  • leather work: shoe-making, belt-making, saddle- and harness-making
  • soap-making and candle-making
  • basket making, including gathering baskets, food storage baskets, and trapping baskets
  • pottery, kiln-building, and where to find local clays
  • making cement and gunpowder using local materials
  • glue-making, paint-making
  • glassblowing
  • finding, mining and working useful rocks and minerals

Earth Skills and Wilderness Survival Classes

Earth skills classes, if available in your area, are an excellent approach.

For youngsters, there are the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, and the 4-H Club, among others.

For adults and young adults, there are primitive living skills schools.

For instance, there is Earth Skills, in Frazier Park, California … https://www.earthskills.com/ … offers some of these very useful skills. Earth Skills offers this book …

In Crestone, Colorado, there is Earth Knack: Stohttp://www.earthskills.com/ne Age Living Skills … https://www.earthknack.com/ ..

There are many other schools teaching primitive living skills across America. Here is a list …

Naturopathy Colleges

Naturopathic physicians have studied four years as graduate students. In addition to medicine, they know about nutrition, homeopathy, botanicals, and psychology.

At this website is a link to a list of American Association of Naturopathic Physicians … https://naturopathic.org/page/education ..

Books

Almost everyone can afford how-to books on these topics; in the event of a long-term disaster, or if you desire to return to America’s pioneering roots, just out of personal preference, these sorts of books would be very helpful. Used books are great for those on a budget.

Dear Ones,

This blog is all about planning for a natural disaster.

THE RED CROSS DISASTER PLAN WEB PAGE: PLANNING WITH FAMILY

On the Red Cross Disaster Plan web page, I particularly like the part about family members getting together and making a plan …

Link: “How to Prepare for Emergencies,” by the Red Cross … https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies.html ..

For instance, who will be responsible for what, if the family is all together at the time of the disaster?

WHAT IF FAMILY MEMBERS ARE DISPERSED WHEN A NATURAL DISASTER HAPPENS?

If the family is dispersed at the time of the disaster, are plans in place for each member to make it on their own till disaster crews are able to help out?

Does each family member … especially young children who might be at school … but also older children who might be away at college, or working at a distance … know what to do? Is there a plan for the family getting back together in the event communications and transportation are down, or will the family members decide to stay wherever they are till services are up and running again?

These are things that may be decided in advance. And not deciding them in advance might have unfortunate consequences. For instance, what if communications and transportation were down for a month, and a father set off to find his daughter in college in a different state? What if the daughter set off at the same time to return to the family home? Because of the time foot or horse travel takes, their paths might never cross. This kind of uncertainty and heartbreak can be easily avoided through a family disaster planning meeting.

ON TAKING ADVANTAGE NOW OF THE SURVIVAL KNOWLEDGE OF OUR ELDERS

Also, might not younger family members benefit from the advice of older family members, who might have grown up in a farming community, and might have greater hands on knowledge about what is needed to get by without Walmart or Vons, and so on?

Now, before the fact, is a good time to ask elders’ advice about this kind of thing, I feel.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS ON A MODEST BUDGET

No matter how modest one’s budget, survival needs for a week or a month can be met with careful planning beforehand. Here is the Red Cross list:

Link: “Survival Kit Supplies: What Do You Need in a Survival Kit?” by the Red Cross … https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies/survival-kit-supplies.html ..

Red Cross also has a web page with links to instructions for specific types of disasters. These have some nice features. On the Hurricane preparation page, for instance, I saw info on what they feel must be done, then info about what to do next, and also what to do about pets and livestock.

Here is the general link to various types of disasters (I note that, while there are links to instructions for many types of disasters, there is no link for Geostorms) …

Link: “Emergency Preparedness Tips from the Red Cross,” by the Red Cross … https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies/types-of-emergencies.html ..

Dear Ones,

THE KARMA OF HACKING

Times are tough, and many honest people, worldwide, are turning to cyber crime as a way to make ends meet, and to support their families …

It seems that cyber attacks, as with house break-ins, are sourced from our wider circle of friends and acquaintances, including social friends and those we patronize for business.

From my research, I was surprised to find recently, that even long-time friends and acquaintances of folks’ families are not immune from preying on their good friends and relatives, or relatives by marriage, on the pretext that their victims will never know that they are being attacked.

If you and your family are very computer savvy, I beg you to consider the karma of hacking; the karmic results that will manifest in your lives, should you opt to hack.

Consider, for instance …

  • The loss of long-time friendships,
  • The lack of goodwill from the friends and neighbors that might be victims,
  • And the catastrophic results to a family’s legal computer and internet enterprises.

As I understand it, the penalties for hacking and ID theft might be in the range of …

  • $3000 per instance and/or up to 20 years in jail.

How would it be for a family, if one member got a prison sentence? If the penalty were to be financial, how would that affect the family savings account?

Children learn how to interact with the world at their parents’ knee, and by watching what their parents do. How would it be if our children learned to be cyber criminals so as to impress their parents? What future would our children have?

For instance, what if detection of hacking results in a felony conviction? There are restrictions on the liberties of felons, even after they have served time …

  • Felons cannot leave the country.
  • They cannot bear firearms.
  • They cannot serve on juries.

To me, these are very important liberties, the loss of which would be inconceivable. Yet every felon must face their loss.

For those of my readers who are computer savvy: Please take the above into consideration. If you see merit in it, please forward it to your computer savvy friends.

I wish the best for each of you in the coming times.

ON THE WILDING OF SECRET SERVICE CYBER SPYWARE

The astral airs have it that Secret Service cyber spyware worldwide has gone wild, through employees taking software home for personal use, such as to spy on spouses, relatives and friends.

Maybe their less-secure home computers are being hacked by cyber criminals for the software, who then use it for their nefarious undertakings.

Maybe disgruntled ex employees, fired for drug use, are aligning with the drug lords and selling the software as a stopgap till they find employment elsewhere.

Whatever the mode has been, if the astral airs are to be believed, some pretty potent secret service software has gone wild, and is now in the hands of crime families, drug lords, and the mobs and mafias around the world.

What can possibly be done to protect the average Joe and his family from the wiles of these career criminals?

THE ‘ONCE REMOVED’ QUALITY OF HOUSE BREAK-INS AND BURGLARIES: ASTRAL STORIES

With regard to tips to family and friends on house break-ins and burglaries, here are two examples from the clair plane …

  • A woman who has a storefront acupuncture business along with her husband, copies clients’ drivers licenses, which have their addresses on them, when she takes payments. She has an opium addiction, and passes the addresses on to a younger member of her extended family, who specializes in house break-ins. He pays her for the tips on the addresses, and this helps support her opium habit. Because she and her husband are well respected in the community, they are unlikely to fall under suspicion.
  • A young man works for a rental car company as the person who drives clients home after they return their rental cars. He reports to an extended family member on likely looking houses for break-ins. The tips he gives to his burglar family member are not intentional; he wants to keep his job. But both are psychic … as are most people in these days of global telepathy … and the driver cannot keep this information from his burglar friend. Further, because of family bonds, he cannot report the criminal or curtail his activities.

The difficulty here, as telepathy sweeps round the globe, is that people are continuing with crime as usual. Hoping they will get away with it a little longer, despite knowing that an ever-widening circle of acquaintances know what they are doing.

What will happen as these issues of crime amongst neighbors and extended family begin to settle out, is anyone’s guess. I am hoping for a quiet and peaceful transition, insofar as that is possible.

COMMUNICATIONS / TRANSPORTATION AND CRIME: PHONE, INTERNET, AND POST OFFICE

Hacking Personal Computers through Phone Lines

There is an astral rumor that there is a backdoor to people’s phone lines through the online customer service. The rumor goes that it is easy to hack the phone line online passwords, and so gain access to people’s phone messages, and hear or delete them.

There is another rumor that, when people opt for the cable service that combines internet with phone, on one line, crooks can call the phone line, using a randomized phone number, and hack their intended victim’s computers through the phone line back door.

If true, this would allow identity theft, as well as credit card fraud, and it would allow sensitive personal documents to be stolen.

Astral Rumor: Facebook Hacking and Cloning

There is an astral rumor that Facebook has a backdoor to do with cloning folks’ desktops and backing up their hard drives. To avoid this, rumor has it, one must sign off Facebook after each use, and also disable Facebook chat, which is casting up messages on personal computer desktops.

Has the Drug Industry Gone Postal?

The buzz in the astral airs has it that mafia in its various iterations worldwide does its best to place a ringer in post offices, and in the offices of private mail carriers, for nefarious reasons to which they alone are privy. One might hazard a guess that a goal might be postal shipment of drugs and other illegal items.

There is another astral story that crime families are attempting to cut deals with cable carriers to hardwire or software hack personal internets.

Private Helicopter Pads and Drug Transport

Could the astral rumors be true? Are private helicopter pads being used to transport drugs into urban areas? If so, would decriminalization of drugs help with regulation and taxation of the drug industry?

State Check Points on Interstate Freeways

Yet another astral rumor: Are male drug runners at State checkpoints on Interstate freeways disguising themselves as women so as to avoid the typecasting warning signs from popping up with the roadside checkup personnel?

Mass Media, Drugs, and Violence

There is an astral rumor that the themes of the mass media are being financed by mafias worldwide to drum up public support of criminal activities and to cause people to long to take drugs and engage in acts of violence.

Then, there is another astral rumor that the people involved in mass media creation … whether producers, writers, directors, or actors, I have not heard one way or the other … might be involved in drugs and violence and so on, and thus prone to create works of art based on their own experience of life.

Of course, it might also be that many people are already in that space, and longing to take drugs and engage in acts of violence; as I recall, this is closer to the theories proposed by mass media moguls: To wit, that the mass media are a backward looking indicator that creates on the basis of public tastes.

TRACKING OF PERSONAL CARS AND PERSONAL TRAVELS

Location Detection of Personal Automobile through ‘Backdoor’ Factory-Installed Software?

Another astral rumor that I heard in 2016, is to this effect: There is some software purportedly installed in modern, electronic cars, and typically turned on by consumers … could the rumors be referring to Bluetooth or Pandora, I wonder? … that allows crooks to trace the whereabouts of people on the road. The wild astral story had it that the creator of the software, whatever it was, and whoever he was, had relocated to … was it Japan? … and was living the good life there. Maybe this has to do with mapping software in the cars?

Smartphone, Cell Phone, and Facebook Location Detection Software

Then there is a well-breezed-about story, I guess true, to the effect that smartphones and Facebook have location software that, if not disabled, allows a person’s whereabouts to be discovered. I think everyone knows about that, though.

The New Clairs and Clearing of Criminal Tendencies from the Astral Body

Location Detection Backdoor Software Claims. Location detection backdoor software claims are hard to track down, since one of the new clair abilities is to place oneself in someone else’s shoes, and in that way one might figure out someone else’s location. The trouble here comes with insufficient clearing of criminal malware concomitant with the new clair ability manifesting. I expect the Incoming Light will soon provide a fix for that … maybe even during the August 2017 Lion’s Gate.

Spy Camera Claims and Their Easy Resolution. The same is true of astral claims that there are ‘spy cameras’ in personal residences. What this apparently really is, is the new clair ability to ‘put yourself in someone else’s shoes’, combined with as yet uncleared voyeuristic tendencies (peeping tom propensities, for instance) or with the desire to frighten another person, so as to feel less afraid oneself during times of high Light.

So this last item is, in most instances, merely an annoyance. ON EVALUATING AND ACTING ON ASTRAL STORIES

If real life were half as scary as the astral stories, we would all be living in hell, rather than here on Earth. I guess the main thing about the astral stories is: We can take them with a grain of salt, unless evidence pops up that supports them.

Even then, when we have possible evidence in hand, the thing to do is to investigate, on the physical plane. Look folks in the eye … Ask questions.

In most cases, I find that what is actually taking place is a merging of our hellworld scenarios … the landscapes of our unconscious and subconscious fears, angers, and negative touch-points, with the brighter landscape of the conscious mind.

In Timeline terminology, we call this merging denser timelines with the brighter timelines made available to us through the Incoming Light.

What it takes to do the merge is a neutral state of mind. Keep the chest muscles relaxed. Then, as we undergo dharmic action … ‘right action’ … in the physical world, we can transform and merge the negative timelines with the New through the process of Personal Alchemy.

In love, light and joy

Dear Ones,

Here is a video with a projection of mild negative population growth for the next 10 years in the United States, due to the HIV pandemic. Also in the video are suggestions for ways to stabilize the United States population during that time. There is a Summary after the video …

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

Hello, Dear Ones, this is Alice. I Am of the Stars.

Figures for Population Decline Because of the HIV Pandemic in the United States

I have crunched some numbers and come up with some figures for population decline because of the HIV pandemic here in the United States over the next 10 years. I will put the figures in the blog, and I thought I would also put them in the video for my youtube viewers.

Some of the data that I really need … such as the 2016 births and deaths in the United States … are just not available right now. But I do have paired data for births and deaths in the United States as of 2014.

There were 2.626 million deaths in the United States in 2014, as compared to 3.986 million births in the United States then. That would be a 0.8% population growth in the United States in 2014 (a little less than 1%).

And I have figures for population growth as of 2017 in the United States: The figure was, a little less than 1% positive change in population. It is 0.73%. You can compare this to the percent change of population in Africa as of 2017: It was 2.5% positive change. When we say “as of 2017” I believe what is meant is “the most recent data available as of 2017”; that might be 2014 or 2015, for all I know.

Nevertheless, going on what is available, you can see that, in Africa, which is hard hit by the HIV pandemic, there is still a 2.5% population growth, and pretty much steady around that range for the last few years. I believe this has to do with the greater fertility rate in Africa, because it surely does not have to do with better treatment as far as drugs are concerned. Africa is somewhat underserved, compared to the United States, as I understand it, in that respect.

So now to get back to the United States, and the blossoming bell curve here, the following is a conservative estimate … I had first thought it would be much greater; in fact I still think that. But I err on the side of conservatism for the sake of my readers. This is the conservative part:

I am estimating 50% survival rate to puberty for the births that take place in the United States. That is assuming treatment with proper antiviral medications for neonates immediately after birth, if the mother has HIV or AIDS. So, say, a 50% survival rate to puberty, including all children, not just the children with HIV.

If that happens, then what we will have, according to my figures, is 0.2% population decline per year for the next 10 years; in other words, slightly negative population growth. So we should plan for that, and figure out what to do.

Thoughts on Mitigation

Better Treatment Methods. In the meantime, we can also look forward to new discoveries with regard to treatment of the HIV virus, and ways of living that will bolster the immune system, I feel.

Better Growth Rate if We Increase the Birth Rate. Also, we could increase the birth rate here, especially with regard to parents that do not have HIV yet. So that is a possibility; that is something that might be looked forward to.

Possible Lifestyle Changes to Assist Population Growth. And furthermore, I have an idea that I will discuss further on in the video, about a change of lifestyle that might be extremely beneficial.

Thoughts for Parents of Young Children

Advantages of Voluntary, Free Testing in Elementary Schools. I think that we have had a sudden creeping up upon us of this HIV epidemic, and that, of the children reaching puberty right now, almost all of them will have been infected with HIV by the time they reach puberty. That is what I think we will find.

I believe testing has been insufficient. Testing should be freely available, on a volunteer basis, at parents’ request, through schools, at no charge. That would give us a better grasp of the pandemic amongst children.

Advantages of Diagnosing and Treating Children. This is for parents: We need to know whether the children have HIV, because there are treatments available for young people, that would improve their chances of surviving if, in fact, they have HIV.

Thoughts on Targeting of Elementary School Children by the Drug Trade. Further, I would like to just mention to parents that I believe that the drug trade in the United States is marketing to elementary schools right now; maybe even preschools. And I believe that they are soliciting from amongst the economically deprived members of school classes throughout the United States, pushers of drugs who are 8 years of age or so … old enough to be able to hold their own physically in fist fights and so forth, against younger children.

I believe this is a conscious campaign by the drug industry in the United States, to get children hooked very early. The result is that children are often exposed to HIV infection by the people selling narcotics to the children, who often ask the children for sexual favors … this is my intuitive grasp of the situation … They ask these children for sexual favors in return for giving them drugs. And it is the sexual favors that cause the children to be infected with HIV.

Because of the lifestyle of young people today, once one child is infected with HIV in an elementary school, all of the children are at risk of being infected within a year or two. So there’s that for parents to look out for.

Drug-Related Violence and HIV Risk in the Santa Monica Mountains. Here in Los Angeles, my intuition tells me that there are a few other areas of danger zones for parents to know about with regard to their children. One, I think, is the parks, especially the Santa Monica Mountains parks right now.

  • I have seen evidence of marijuana use in Malibu Creek State Park, near the rock pools, and Top of Reseda Trailhead.
  • I have also seen one person at Gillette Ranch who, I was told by a ranger at the Malibu Creek State Park kiosk, exhibited the signs of cocaine addiction. Those areas that I have seen or clairly might have drug-related difficulties a included Gillette Ranch, Malibu Creek State Park, and Paramount Ranch. I just have a feeling that there is cocaine use there sometimes now, both during the week and on the weekends, that might result in acts of violence … say, rape … in those areas. So parents should be very careful about letting their children hike unsupervised in those areas both weekdays and weekends.

Because I am an avid hiker and a long-time Sierra Club member, I am very familiar with all the trails around the Santa Monica Mountains.

Possible Sexual Predators at the Victory Trailhead in the San Fernando Valley. And I have noticed, at the west end of Victory Blvd in the San Fernando Valley, the trailhead that goes into the Upper Las Virgenes Open Space Area, there is trouble there, possibly because of the restrooms there, to do with the very young adults from the surrounding neighborhoods being potentially preyed upon … at least, people looking out to do that with them, who appear to be of lower socioeconomic status.

Also, it appears to me, just judging from the years that I was working at UCLA Medical Center in an area by the HIV clinic there at that time (so I am familiar with the look of advanced AIDS), that there may be men, there at that area, who are looking out for the young adult boys with the chance, hopefully, of a sexual encounter which might result in HIV transmission to the youth of that area.

Possible Sexual Predators in Chatsworth Park South, in the San Fernando Valley. And also I have noticed, in Chatsworth Park South, in Chatsworth, in the San Fernando Valley, that there are people either living or lurking in the underbrush, the chaparral in those areas, in places where the young adults, especially young men, play after school.

So I would suggest parents advising their children to exert the utmost caution in regard to hiking and walking in, and exploring and adventuring in, the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa Susana Mountains, until the danger, which came up in about 2016, I think, is cleared up. There is that.

Also, I have noticed that, in the children’s movie matinees in the San Fernando Valley, it is very important for mothers not to let their young sons go to the restrooms unattended. The young boys, I feel, should use the women’s restroom under the supervision of their mothers if there is no other possibility.

Possible Danger to Young Boys in Matinee and Department Store Restrooms in the San Fernando Valley. That is because I have seen one case, last year, of a young boy at a matinee being afraid to go to the restroom and his mother forcing him to go, not understanding the difficulty that he had apparently encountered before there. And of a young man in his 20s immediately going into the restroom after the child went in. The aspect of the person that went in was what the clair people call ‘predatory’, you know? He was up to no good, it seemed to me. The same sort of danger might be encountered in any bathrooms in urban areas, including those in department stores.

The thing of it is, at times when we think there is no danger, in the great open spaces around here, in a children’s matinee, or the like, parents need to look and see if there is danger. And talk to their children, especially about any close encounters that they have had.

Positive Possible Changes in Lifestyle to Help Stabilize Our Population

And now to move on to positive possible changes in lifestyle that might result in stabilizing our population in the United States in the coming years.

On Very Early Marriage, and Chastity Until First Child Is Born. I had one thought about a lifestyle change that might be helpful. I thought that, if young people were to marry very young, and remain faithful to each other until their first child has been born, then we might be able to stabilize the population despite the increase of HIV virus transmission.

Apparently, children that are born infected with the virus have a short life expectancy (about 9.4 years without any treatment) … too short to expect them to reproduce … and so it is important to conserve the lives of the children that do not have HIV, and to help them have a chance to have a child before they make a lifestyle choice that puts them at greater risk of infection with that virus.

On Parents and Grandparents Helping to Raise Children. I am also thinking that, given the more lax standards of chastity in the world today, it might be a good idea to allow children to have children at a younger age … a very young age … say, soon after they become capable of doing so … and then make the rearing of these children the responsibility and joy of the greater family, including the parents of the children and the children themselves.

On Family-Value-Oriented Solutions. So that is my thought. Probably there are other solutions. But I consider this to be one of the most family-value-oriented solution. I think that in this way we could improve the compassion, the compassionate feeling of family life in America, at a time of relative difficulty with regard to the progress of this pandemic.

On Joy in Childbirth. And we could increase the joy that parents and children feel when the children become pubescent, because their first acts of sexual union would be joyfully anticipated by the family instead of feared. And instead of resulting in abortion, which does cause, in my opinion, great Soul wounding, they would result in rejoicing.

Conclusion

That is all for now. You all take care.

I wish you the very best in these trying times. I feel very certain that, as we draw together as communities, all across the United States, we will come to a greater understanding of family values, we will raise the most beautiful children there ever were, and we will stand up strong in the face of adversity, with the courage that it takes to meet this challenge.

And we will successfully persevere through it, and come out on the other side, the better for it. Love you all lots.

STATISTICS AND ESTIMATES ON UPCOMING NEGATIVE POPULATION GROWTH IN THE UNITED STATES

Here are the statistics and estimates given in the video …

2014 United States Statistics

3.986 million births (1) (as in 2014 in the United States) / 2 (rough estimate: 50% survival rate of children to puberty, with treatment) –> 1.993 M births of children surviving to puberty

Deaths, 2.626 M in 2014 (2) in the United States

Population in United States in 2014 = 318.9 million (3)

Estimates and Calculations

2,626 M deaths – 1.993 M births of children surviving to puberty  = .633 M negative population growth forecast for each of the next 10 years, in terms of lesser numbers of people in the United States

0.633 M estimated annual negative population growth / 318.9 M population in 2014 x 100 (converting to percent) = 0.20% population decline per year for the next 10 years (compared to 2.5% positive population growth for 2017)

United States versus African Population in 2017

Population of the United States as of 2017: 326,474,013, (4) representing 0.73 % population growth

Population of the Africa as of 2017: 1,246,504,865, (5) representing 2.5 % population growth
