INTRODUCTION

Dear Ones,

This is the fifth and last video in the Steckel Park Aviary video series. I’ll let the Lovebirds speak for themselves. They will have it no other way!

Hint: Hear that staccato way they have of speaking? They call it their ‘rat-a-tat voice’. They say they are using it so the Humans won’t know what they quite naughtily say … unless they want us to.

Incredible personalities here! Some are sweet as sweet potato pie. Others could scald the hide off a Bull Gator with their swift and witty repartees.

There is a Summary after the video …

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

“Steckel Park Aviary 5: Lovebirds”
By Alice B. Clagett

[Introduction]

Hello, Dear Ones. It’s Alice. I Am of the Stars.

This is the last clip from Steckel Park Aviary in Santa Paula, California. The stars of this clip are the Lovebirds. They’re linguistically genius. Total genius.

They always have one up on me. And the very first thing they said was, “You don’t talk at all! WE will talk to you!” So I was listening. And they’re just so gifted. They’re incredibly gifted.

First they averred that they speak pretty good English, and then they said that they speak Spanish. And then they said that they speak German! And I don’t even speak German! And I was so tongue-tied I had a hard time coming up with any Spanish at all.

And when they respond, they use a mixture of languages. They start in, say, Spanish and then they move to English; or they start in German, and then move to English.

It’s mind-boggling. Truly mind-boggling. I just … I just don’t know what to say. See what you think!

[At Steckel Park Aviary … Lovebirds]

Who is this over here? Who could that be?

Who IS that? Who IS that over there?
Who ARE all these beings?

Oh, my G-d! It’s a Lovebird!

Okay. Okay. Don’t speak to the Birds?

Okay. You speak better!

Wow!

I could sing you a song instead if you like. Ready?
“I’ve been working on the railroad all the live long day! …”

Thank you. It’s very sweet of you. Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you. You’re welcome. Welcome, welcome, welcome! Okay. Bye.

You’re natives of the Americas!
didn’t know you were natives of the Americas.

Natives of the Americas?

Alice: You speak pretty good English. Do you speak Chinese? … What? … I don’t speak any?
[Lovebirds: Yes, we do, but you don’t understand it
so we can’t speak it to you. We don’t think you understand it!
We might say ‘Ninhao’ and you might think it means something else.]
Alice: I speak Spanish? … Quien habla Espanol? Quien es?
[Lovebird: I hablo Espanol!]

Alice to Readers: What do you think, guys? Pretty cool, huh? Wow. Lovebirds.
They don’t want me to speak to them.

They don’t want me to speak to them.
They speak pretty  good English. They’re natives
of the Americas, as you have heard.
Right? What did I forget?

Alice to Lovebirds: Speak Spanish! You speak Spanish?

[Lovebirds: We certainly DO speak Spanish!
It’s our native language. We come from west of Honduras.]

Alice to Lovebirds: Que quiero hablar? Que?

Alice to Lovebirds: Ok.

Alice to Lovebirds: Anything else I say to you?
[Lovebird to Alice: You could say ‘Buen dia!’
Then see if we would respond.]

Alice to Lovebird: Buen dia! Thank you very much!
[Lovebird: You might also say, “Que tal?” and see what we will say to you after that.]
Alice to Lovebird: Que tal?

[Lovebird to Alice: We’re doing really supercalifragilistic good!]
Alice to Livebird: Real good!

[Lovebird (collapsing in laughter) to Alice: We’re doing really supercalifragilistic good!]
Alice to Livebird: Real good! You do?!

Alice to Lovebird: You do?!
[Lovebird says a swear word, collapes in laughter, then says to Alice: ‘Real good’ isn’t really what we said!]
Alice to Lovebird: But the other one sounds better!
[Lovebird to Alice: We hear the WEiRD things that people say, and that’s why sometime say that!]

[Lovebird to Alice: And the owner says we can’t speak
anything like that ever again.]
Alice to Lovebird: I GOT that!
[Gosh, What a predicament!]

[Lovebird to Alice: Sprechen sie deutsch? Try that one.]
Alice to Lovebirds: You speak German too?
[Lovebird to Alice: Tee hee hee! Yes, we do!]

Alice to Lovebirds: What else do you speak?
[Lovebird to Alice: We speak 17 or 18 languages.]

Alice to Lovebirds: So that’s it? German (Deutsch),
Spanish (Espanol), English.
[Lovebirds: We say we speak 17 or 18 languages
and she says we don’t speak that many languages.]

Alice to Lovebirds: I’m very, very honored to meet you. Very honored to meet everybody.

You guys are so well educated. I don’t know what to say. I’m so pleased
to meet you. Yeah, I am. So long! Hasta luego!

Thank you for speaking with me. Thank you. Hasta luego!

Oh, Thank you. Oh, gracias. So long! So long!

Bye. Bye. Bye bye bye. So long. So long.
Bye. Bye, everybody. Bye.

Alice to Readers: Dudes! I was just linguistically bested by the Lovebirds … who speak German and Spanish and English!

I might as well give up. Yeah! They’re so talented, aren’t they? Thumbs up.

[The Windup]

PROLOGUE

Dear Ones,

There is bedlam at Steckel Park Aviary in this video series. So many voices! Voices so very different from our own, are they not? How are we to understand what is being said by the beings in these videos? Impossible, right?

No, not impossible. Did Antonio Banderas, as the character Ahmad ibn Fadlan, an exiled Muslim poet and courtier, have a textbook or a tutor when he learned the language of the Vikings round a campfire? …

Video: “The 13th Warrior: ‘Learning the Language’,” by Joshua Lankton, 18 June 2012 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVVURiaVgG8 ..

Ahmad ibn Fadlan had what is termed total language immersion … as, for example, when we go to a foreign country in which our own language is not spoken, and attempt to learn ‘by hook or by crook’. There’s strong incentive to learn quickly, because we need to find food to eat and a place to sleep, for instance. We need to avoid fist fights over what we may say by mistake. And so on.

This video series is a language immersion experience. It’s a chance to accomplist what Ahmad ibn Fadlan accomplished. It’s a chance to be like King Solomon, who (according to Islam and Judaism) could understand the languages of all animals, and who could speak with them.

If King Solomon could speak with Eagles, Parrots, Hawks, and Peacocks, you can understand and speak with the birds at Steckel Park Aviary!

The language of the Birds in these videos is no more different from your own than is Old Norse from the three languages that Ahmad ibn Fadlan already knew, which were Arabic, Greek, and Latin.

In fact, understanding the languages of the Birds in this video series is easier to do than the translating job that Ahmad ibn Fadlan faced.

Why so? Because the Birds at Steckel Ranch Aviary have already done the heavy lifting. They speak English! It is just their inflections, their vocal ranges, and their cultural differences that make it impossible for you to understand them. Those, and the obstinate belief of many human beings that they can speak English, that they have special mental abilities, and that other beings on Earth do not have these … when, in fact, they do.

A few nights ago, I was hitting my mind up against a long-time ‘snag thought’ … one of those thoughts I hear in the noosphere, floating into my home from other people’s minds, and which I disbelief to just as great an extent as they believe the very same thought.

I thought: Will there be no end to this? Then someone else’s thought came in. This man said, telepathically: Expand your mind beyond that thought!

So I envisioned the thought in the air outside my head. And I envisioned the energy of my Higher Mental Body, growing bigger and bigger, till it completely engulfed that thought. And then the energy of my Higher Mental Body kept on growing!

Silence! Finally, I was free of the ‘snag thought’ that had plagued me for years.

You can do this too! When you have the thought: “Animals cannot speak English” … which is patently untrue, but stubbornly rooted in our human culture, and exceedingly difficult to overcome … just Expand your mind beyond that thought! Get yourself free!

Know that you can talk with all the beings on Earth. Start today! Listen immersively to the many voices on the videos in this series, just as Ahmad ibn Fadlan listened to the Vikings round the campfire and then learned Old Norse.

Antonio Banderas played a character who learned Norse without having any teacher. YOU, Gentle Reader, can learn to speak with Cockatiels, Parakeets, Ducks, Peacocks, Pheasants, Peace Doves, Pigeons, and Lovebirds without having any teacher!

Now is the time! Bonne chance to each of you!

INTRODUCTION

Dear Ones,

This is the first of five documentary videos taken at Steckel Park Aviary in Santa Paula, California. The stars of this video are three fine looking but ill-starred Parakeets who are in the mood for love. You may notice Lovebirds in an adjacent cage … unseen but most definitely not unheard … enthusiastically lend a hand as emcees for the filming.

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

“Steckel Park Aviary 1: Cockatiels and Parakeets”
By Alice B. Clagett

[Introduction]

Hello, Dear Ones. It’s Alice. I Am of the Stars. This video was taken at Steckel Park Aviary in Santa Paula, California. The stars are Cockatiels and Parakeets. And the very first voice that you hear in the video is most likely Lovebirds.

The action has to do with Parakeets. There are three Parakeets. Two are sort of the same color, yellowish green, and one is bluish. The bluish one states that it’s in the mood for love. I think you’ll hear that.

And the other two, the two green ones, one of them is trying to convince the other that they’re mates, but it turns out they’re both males. And the one that’s not convinced keeps trying to explain to the other one that they’re both males and they can’t be a couple.

And then the blue one steps up and first tries one and asks it if it would would like to make love. Then it tries the other one and asks it if it would like to make love. And it turns out that all three of them are males. And so there’s just quite a commotion going on.

See if you can distinguish what they’re saying to each other, okay?

[At Steckel Park Aviary … Cockatiels and Parakeets]

Alice: Who could THAT be?

Aw, Parakeets! Parakeets!

I love you. I do. I love you.

I see everything. Is that ok? … Very good? … How delightful?!

Alice [repeating what Birds say: Won’t hurt anyone! … You **@#% won’t?!

He’s so beautiful and so handsome. He is really a beautiful bird.

See you guys later. Bye. See you later. Byebye. Byebye. See you.

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

“Conversation with an Owl”
By Alice B. Clagett

IF YOU TURN YOUR AUDIO TO HIGH you can hear the animals talking.

Hello, Dear Ones. It’s Alice. I Am of the Stars, and I’m here at Paramount Ranch today.

I started to hear the voice of an Owl and I’ve come to recognize Owls. They have a kind of a soft muttering or mumbling tone and it’s easy to miss them and it’s really easy to believe  that they’re not Owls …

Owl [in a soft low tone]: No, it is NOT easy to miss me at all!

Alice (continuing): … because they don’t sound like the very imperious beings that

Owls really are. And so I said, “Is that an Owl?”

And this being that was muttering softly said, “No, this is not an Owl.” I said, “I
think it is an Owl.”

And the being said, “All right, I am an Owl, but the people say that I’m …

Nanday: “Nanday said ‘endangered’!”

Alice (continuing with what the Owl had said): … endangered. The people say that I’m  endangered. That’s why I say I’m not an Owl.”

Nanday: That’s NOT it. Nanday said that they are not endangered … that they are not … that they are NOT endangered!

Alice to Nandays: What is it?

Nanday: RIGHT! They are NOT endangered! Those Owls are NOT endangered! THEY are not endangered!

Alice to Readers: Nandays are saying that’s not an Owl.

Alice to Nanday: It’s a nitwit?! What a thing to say! Is it a Groundhog? A Groundhog?

Raven: That’s NOT it!

Nanday: That’s not what NAN-day said!

Groundhog [in a soft good-natured mammalian voice]: My GOOD-ness. She’s a NIT-wit!”

Nanday: That Woman is a NITWIT! And by the way, that’s not what NAN-days say!

Alice to Nanday: A Groundhog!

Nanday: Yep! It’s a Groundhog. Groundhogs say that she’s a nitwit.

Alice to Readers: That’s what Groundhogs said about it.

The Nandays … who might also be prevaricating, I can’t tell … say, “This is a nitwit, not an Owl. This is a Groundhog, not an Owl.”

Raven: HE . DID . NOT . SAY . THAT!

And the Raven just said, “It’s not a Groundhog.”

Let’s just go with this  original story. What do you say? So, I was talking to what I presume to be an Owl.

And I said, “You know, it’s not really that you’re endangered, because you’re large and fierce. You’re an Apex Predator. Yeah, Apex Predator!”

Unknown Being: What?!

Alice to Readers: Apex Predator! And that was a Nanday flying overhead. Alice (continuing with what she said to the Owl): “And so all the beings are afraid of you.”

Groundhog [in a low, huffing, amused voice; Groundhog is quite the diplomat]: That was the Mountain Lion. That was what it was. That was the Mountain Lion over there that she was talking about.

Alice to Readers (talking about what she said to Owl): “… They’re endangered. You’re not endangered. And so you don’t need to say that you’re not an Owl.”

Alice to Nanday: It’s a Nanday! A Nanday pretending to be an Owl.
I’m going to put this conversation on hold for the time being.

God bless you all,
And keep you safe,
And be with you
Through all your days.

In love, Light, and joy,
This is Alice B. Clagett.

INTRODUCTION

Dear Ones,

This documentary was recorded a few days before Valentine’s Day. There is a discussion amongst Nandays and Ravens about a recent incident in which a Deer ate a Hawk’s babies (presumably by mistake) and the Hawk got even by blinding the Deer with its sharp, hooked beak.

There is a Summary after the video …

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

“Why Would Hawks Kill Deer? … and Happy Valentine’s Day”
By Alice B. Clagett

[Quick! MAX your Audio volume!
Then you can hear Ravens and Nandays speaking!]
Alice to Nanday: Nanday, Why would the Hawks want to kill the Deer?

Raven 1 to Raven 2 [repeating my question]:
Why would Hawks kill Deer?
Raven 2 to Raven 1: I don’t know.
Nanday 1 to Ravens: She asked NANDAY!

Nandays to Ravens: She asked NANDAY! She asked NANDAY!
Raven [undaunted] to Alice: Bad Hawk!
Nanday to Raven: SHUT UP, Raven!

Alice to Readers: The Ravens say, “I don’t know why the Hawks do that.”
And another one said …
Raven to Alice: That was a Bad Hawk!

Alice to Readers [continuing]: … “I don’t know why.”

[Nandays agree to tell me
it was an accident.
Raven (quite vocally) and I (silently}
disagree with this prestidigitation
(although Alice can see it might mollify Hawk).]

Alice to Nandays: Are you sure that’s what it is?
Raven to Nanday [doggedly]: That . was . a . bad . bad . Hawk.
Nanday 2 [tentatively suggesting a middle path]: It’s an accident?

Nanday to Alice: Right. It is a really BAD Hawk.
[Trying out the suggestion of Nanday 2]: It’s an AC-cident!

[Nanday explains it was an accident
that the Deer ate the Hawk’s babies up …
NOT an accident that the Hawk
blinded the erring Deer.]
Nanday 1: It is an AC-cident!
Nanday 2: Yep. An accident.

Nanday 1: Right.
Nanday 2: Right.
Nanday 1: Big old AC-cident.
Nanday 2: BIG ONE.

Alice to Nandays: Oh, the Deer ate their
babies up … so they got mad?

Nanday 1 to Nanday 2: Yeah. Ate their babies up.
Nanday 2 to Nanday 1: That’s right.
Alice to herself: It got mad.
Alice to Nandays: That … You know what? That …
that Hawk just went crazy. That’s all.

Raven to Alice: That’s a bad Hawk.
Alice to Ravens and Nandays: Just one crazy Hawk.
Don’t worry. It’ll end. Something will happen.
Nanday [hopefully]: Yeah. It will end.
Alice to Ravens and Nandays: It’ll be okay.

Nanday to Alice: Ex-ACT-ly!
Alice to Ravens and Nandays: The other Hawks … the other Hawks will find out and
they’ll do something.
Nanday to Alice: Yes, [they’ll] do something.
Alice to Ravens and Nandays: Yeah, they’ll do something.

Hawk [breathily, on the wind]: Look at ME. I’m a very BIG Hawk.
Nanday: They can!
Raven: Yes, they can.
Alice: They CAN. It’s a Big Hawk.

Nanday 1 to Nanday 2: That’s a Raven.
Hawk [or is this a Coyote? … breathily, on the wind]: No, I’m NOT a Raven.
Nanday 2 to Nanday 1: Not a Raven.
Alice to Nandays: It sounds like a Big Hawk.
Nanday 2: Sounds like a Big Hawk. NOT a Raven.
Nanday 1: Yeah. NOT A RAVEN.
Hawk [laughing, on the wind]: I am flying ….

Hawk [laughing, on the wind]: … over you.
Alice to Nandays: Not Red Tailed!
Nanday: D-mn it!
Alice to Nandays: Oh no!
Nanday: The biggest Hawk!
Alice to Nandays: Not a Red Tailed Hawk!
Nanday: Yes! The Biggest Hawk!
Hawk [laughing breathily]: I AM THE BIGGEST RED TAILED HAWK …

Hawk [laughing breathily]: .. OF ALL TIME!
Alice to Nandays and Hawk:
Oh no, a really big Hawk. Oh no!
Hawk [laughing breathily]: I am the Biggest Red Tailed Hawk …

Hawk [laughing breathily]: … of ALL the EARTH!
Alice to Ravens and Nandays: This is terrible news! They’re
so huge. Their wingspan is 5 feet.

Alice to Ravens and Nandays:
What am I supposed to do?
Their wingspan is as wide as I am tall.
Nanday: D-mn right!
Raven: Dharm, DON’T GIVE UP!

Alice to Ravens and Nandays: They’re really huge.
Nanday 1: D-mn right!
Nanday 2: D-mn right! Right!

Alice to Ravens and Nandays: We should hide. Let’s hide.
Nandays: D-mn right! … D-mmit!
Alice to Ravens and Nandays: We should
hide. Okay? Let’s hide from that Hawk.
Raven: That’s right!
Nanday 1: D-mn it!

Alice to Nanday 1:You won’t?!
Nanday 1: God d-mn it!
Alice to Nandays: Okay, you won’t hide?
Hawk [huffily, taken aback]: Oh NO! They won’t hide?
Raven [sounding mighty ornery – I think he is just playing]:
THEY WILL NOT HIDE. NOT …

Raven [sounding mighty ornery]: … HIDE!
Alice to Readers: Did you hear that?
“We will not hide, not hide.”
Alice to Nandays: Okay. I’m not hiding either.

Alice to Nandays: I’m strong and brave like you.
Nanday 1 to Alice: O-KAY!
Alice to Nandays: Yeah, we’re strong and brave.
Nanday 1: NAN-days …

Alice to Nandays: We’ll do that strong and brave thing.
Nanday 1: … ARE strong and brave!
Nanday 1: Yeah, d-mn right!
Alice to Nandays: Yep, that’s what we’ll do.

Nanday 2: Yep!
Nanday 1: Eat BA-bies!
Nanday 2: Yep!
Nanday 1: BA-bies!

Coyote: I’d say I WOULD say that.
Raven: Red Tailed Hawk would say that too.

Alice to all the beings: Thanks for talking.
Mountain Lion [huffing, calm, slow-paced, slightly amused
voice on the wind]: How COULD you …
Nanday: G-d, no!

Mountain Lion: … say that to the Mountain Lion?
Alice to all the beings [Mountain Lion is bound to take offense at this.
He loathes what he terms maudlin sentiment.
He considers I am insulting him any time I speak from my heart.
But here goes anyway]: Happy Valentine’s Day.
It’s Valentine’s Day in a couple of days.
Nanday 1 to Nanday 2: That Mountain Lion HATES her for that.
Alice to all the beings: [In] three more days it’s Valentine’s Day.
Mountain Lion to Alice: Cut that out right now. Valentine’s Day is …

Mountain Lion to Alice: … NOT what we like to hear about.
Nanday to Mountain Lion: RIGHT, RIGHT.
Strange Bird to other Birds: Just agree with him.
Strange Bird to Mountain Lion: RIGHT, RIGHT.
Strange Bird [frantically]: Just AGREE with him!
Alice to all the beings: then. Everybody’s supposed to love
everybody else and be kind to them.

Alice to all the beings: Valentine’s Day.
Nanday to Mountain Lion: Right, right!
Raven to Alice: Shut Up!

Mountain Lion [speaking in a relatively good humored,
on-top-of-it, Apex Predator way]: The Mountain Lion …
Nanday: G-d D-MMIT!
Raven [simultaneously]: SHUT UP!
Mountain Lion: … is getting AN-gry!
Alice to all beings: Yeah …

Alice to all beings: Valentine’s Day. Everybody’s supposed
to have one big heart on Valentine’s Day.
Mountain Lion: That Woman is starting to make me really angry.

Alice to all beings: Be kind. You could tell the Hawk.
Valentine’s Day. Yeah, pretty good.

Mountain Lion: THE MOUN-tain LIon …
Strange Bird [seconding the Mountain Lion]: G-d d-mmit!
STOP it! STOP it!

Alice to Strange Bird: Who is that?
Strange Bird: It’s a RAB-bit.
Alice to Strange Bird: RAB-bit?
Strange Bird: Yeah. A Rabbit.
Alice to Strange Bird: I could swear that’s not a Rabbit.
Mountain Lion: I could swear that …

Mountain Lion: … too!
Alice to all the beings: See you guys later.
Alice to all the beings: You know that
Ranger is going to … or that Man there, …

Alice to all the beings: … he’s going to try and find out
what’s going on … see what he can do.
Raven: I got that!
Alice to all the beings: … Men are good at that. They’re …

Alice to all the beings: … like …
Raven [sounding bossy, as if he were imitating the voice
of a man]: Yeah, They Are.
Alice to Raven: … they’re like Father Raven. They’re very strong …
Nanday [delighted]: RIGHT!
Alice to Raven and Nanday: … compared to people like me.

Alice to Raven and Nanday: Yeah.

Mountain Lion [grousingly]: I do feel that Father Raven
is NOT VERY STRONG.
[Ouch!]

Father Raven to Mountain Lion: I AM VERY STRONG!
Mountain Lion to Father Raven: You’re strong?
Alice to all the beings: There is that Big Guy …

NATURE NOTES

California Red-Tailed Hawks have a wingspan of 4 or 5 feet and a body length of about 2 feet. This bundle of fury can be quite daunting up close. That is what I have found out in my own hiking experience.
