Are Homeless Living in the Simi Hills Preyed Upon by Mountain Lions?

Dear Ones,

I have noticed much less visibility of homeless people in West Hills in the last six months. I had put it down to relocation to shelters, people moving from tent sleeping to urban car camping, and possibly to local vendettas by homeowners and business owners.

It occurred to me last night … maybe because of the solar flare flurries that have taken place in the last day or so … that the homeless who used to live in tents or sleeping bags along Oakwood Trail and Wagon Road Trail and Sarajevo Trail in the Simi Hills near Oakwood Memorial Park and Cemetery; and in Chatsworth Park South and Chatsworth Park North;  and in the underbrush near Chatsworth Community Center might have been preyed upon and possibly decimated by Mountain Lions there.

I guess time will tell. Meantime, this is a warning for the homeless who live in tents or sleeping bags in or near the Simi Hills. Please be aware that intuition tells me there has been a big upsurge in the number of Mountain Lions in the Santa Monica Mountains. This may extend to the Simi Hills. It is possible that Mountain Lions have eliminated the Deer population, and that the population of rabbits, ground squirrels, and other rodents may not be enough to sustain them. Thus they might have turned to predation on human beings.

If you are camping in a tent or sleeping bag, then there is a danger you might be eaten by Mountain Lions in the local mountains. If you are sleeping in a car or, say, a metal container there, then you may be caught and eaten if you get out of the vehicle or container to relieve yourself.

This warning applies at all times of day and night for areas where the Mountain Lions have made one successful human kill. I intuit that word spreads fast amongst the Mountain Lion population locally.

This warning also applies, both day and night, for those who are camping in the Santa Monica Mountains or camping at any of the Los Angeles beaches that are near the mountains.

It would be good to keep an eye out for Mountain Lions near Chatsworth Nature Preserve now. If you trespass on the Nature Preserve, do not lower your pants while there, as that makes it impossible to run away from a Mountain Lion attack.

Dear Ones,

Last week, in mid-afternoon, I telepathically heard Mountain Lions in the Chatsworth Nature Preserve adjacent to my West Hills house, but did not see them.

There is a neighborhood dog in the yard of 8539 Shoup Avenue, which is a high street overlooking my house. That dog smelled the Mountain Lions there and got upset over it.

I went afoot to calm him, insofar as possible, from the end of Michale Street. As I told him, he has a much better nose than I, but I have the bear spray. Big 5 on Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Canoga Park assures me this is the very best thing for Mountain Lions.

I told Dog If he smells a Mountain Lion nearby he ought not depend on barking, but rather try to get back inside his house.

Sidebar: Advice to Dog on Avoiding Being Blinded by Hawk

And then, as I have mentioned to Dog before, if a Hawk attacks him he ought cover his eyes with his front paws, and not look up, so that he will not be blinded by the Hawk.

He thought this would not work, so we agreed on him putting the front of his face firmly against his house should the Hawk attack.

The best thing for Hawk attacks would be for him to get in a tight space under the house, but I don’t think he has that option.

I say ‘tight space’ because smaller Hawks come flying straight through my open back porch and grab the Songbirds flying to the feeder there, zip zip!

To get back to last week’s story, I telepathically (and with some urgency) queried the Mountain Lions as to what they were up to just then. The Mountain Lions said they had caught a 12-year-old boy with blue shirt, blue or green and white shoes, who had his pants down …

Caveat: Do Not Lower Your Pants in Chatsworth Nature Preserve!

If you trespass on the Chatsworth Nature Preserve, do not lower your pants while there, as that makes it impossible to run away from a Mountain Lion attack.

The Mountain Lion with which I spoke, the older one, said they were a pack of five Mountain Lions … one larger female and four younger Mountain Lions. They said they would take the body up Woolsey Canyon Creek to the high Simi Hills mountains.

I note there is a 2-foot gap under the Chatsworth Nature Preserve fence that extends for several fence post lengths adjacent to Chatsworth Lake Manor. That would provide a way for the Mountain Lions to drag the body past the Nature Preserve fence.

This morning at about 5 am my cat Oreo Shoes, sometime Producer of my videos, mentioned that the Coyotes at the house next door had seen a Mountain Lion down the way from that house last night.

Just to be on the safe side, I showed Oreo Shoes the first video above, and explained to her that Mountain Lions look deceptively like very large House Cats. But they are not in the least friends of House Cats. I told her to steer well clear of them. I think she got the message.

Thus I, Pragmatic Prophet, say it would be good to keep an eye out for Mountain Lions near Chatsworth Nature Preserve now …  maybe 2-year-old Mountain Lions, smaller than the one in this video …

It could be that Mountain Lions are hanging out in the Chatsworth Creek tunnel on the west side of the Fallbrook Ave and Roscoe Blvd industrial center, which lets out at Los Angeles Fire Department Station 106. Fortunately the Chatsworth Creek channel has high concrete walls and fences next to the Fire Station.

It looks to me that Chatsworth Creek connects via a short jog to Dayton Creek to Orcutt Ranch Horticultural Center. That would account for my hearing one local Mountain Lion while visiting Orcutt Ranch last week.

From there they have access to the Chatsworth Nature Preserve – Simi Hills and also to the Sepulveda Reservoir.

By way of corroboration, per Google AI, “Chatsworth Creek passes the industrial area just north of Roscoe Boulevard through a concrete-lined, engineered flood control channel …

“Chatsworth Creek has direct access to the Los Angeles River. It is a tributary that originates in the Simi Hills, passes through the Chatsworth Nature Preserve, and joins the Bell Creek in Canoga Park to form the headwaters of the LA River. …

“Mountain lions in the Sepulveda Basin can use the soft-bottom stretches of the Los Angeles River and connected Tujunga Wash to travel between the Santa Monica, Santa Susana, and San Gabriel Mountains.”

Hello, Dear Ones. This is the Pragmatic Prophet, Alice B. Clagett.

I was talking to someone the other day who felt it was really a disaster to allow thousands and thousands of illegal aliens to cross the border into our country. I also think that is a difficult thing in the current economic environment. It robs American citizens of jobs.

But a thousand times worse than that, I feel, are the laws that allow foreign citizens to purchase portions of the United States inch by inch.

I have read the United States Constitution, and I do not see any place at all in it that says we should sell our country … for no matter what pocketful of gold … to people of other countries. It is counter intuitive; and in the currently heating up Cold War environment it is a really bad idea.

I feel there should be a mandate from the Federal level preventing the States from doing this. Right off the bat I would say it is unconstitutional, and against the common good of the people of the United States.

If this state of affairs continues here in California, there will come a time when a foreign power such as Mexico, Canada, or China owns enough California land to force changes in our State government. For instance, consider the following …

Because of the decades-long influx of Mexicans, California is beginning to resemble the Mexican State of Baja California in terms of quality of food supplies, availability of retail goods, prices of utilities services and corruption in their personnel, problems in responsiveness of government and police forces, criminal activities shielded by religions, and lobbying by drug cartels.

What will happen next? Due to ever-increasing Canadian ownership of property in California, could our State become a Canadian province, in a way similar to the United States’ retention of noncontiguous states such as Alaska and Hawaii? Could that be in the wings?

Chinese Department of Defense policy is increasingly counter to United States economic interests. Considering the current tension in international relationships, turning of California towards Chinese interests because of Chinese real estate acquisition in our State would be a ding in our Nation’s economic and strategic policies.

As a State, I feel we need to stand strongly in favor of our Nation’s interests, and in favor of National defense. And vice versa — our Nation needs to offer California relief for the homeless issue which I feel in essence to be the issue of bolstering our Nation’s manpower. The homeless of California, and the homeless of America, can be converted from a liability to an asset, but we as a State are unable to accomplish this goal without a Federal leg up.

We need the help of the Federal government, and vice versa, the Federal government needs the support of our great State. Here is why …

If the current avid acquisition of California real estate by Chinese citizens and Chinese corporations proceeds apace, it is conceivable that our State might end up like Hong Kong, which in the year 2047 will become part of China.

In other words, there may come a ‘tipping point’ where California falls into the hands of China. This would be a down round for our National defense strategy, and surely a sorry pickle for the Sunshine State.

Write me a letter and prove me wrong!

PRAGMATIC PROPHET ON A CARRINGTON EVENT         top

I feel a Carrington Event might adversely impact the performance of electronic devices including electronic storage devices, satellites, people who are in an airplane that is airborne, and automobiles (both gas and electric). It may cause anxiety and cognitive diminution in most people on Earth.

In urban areas, water supply, gas and electric supply, transportation, and communications may be temporarily interrupted.

In Los Angeles, for instance, prior research led me to believe there may be only a 3-day water supply for the population. This is because it takes electricity to lift the incoming water over the mountain between Santa Clarita and Los Angeles, and electricity may go out.

IF YOU LIVE IN AN URBAN AREA, SHELTER IN PLACE. Urban areas will be the first to receive disaster assistance.

Only the most skilled survivalists ought to consider going to a remote hideaway. I say this because they may find their automobiles no longer work after a Carrington Event. These areas may be the last to get disaster assistance. It would take a person who is very physically fit to hike out of a remote area to get to a place where there is disaster assistance.

PREPARE NOW!         top

I feel it is important to make basic preparations today, just in case. Should there be a flare of such magnitude, then it might be hard to get together your emergency supplies in the interval between the solar flare and CME impact on Earth.

My idea of the most important preparations:

  • Water: Small containers of bottled water are good for travel. A big jug of water is good for home. Count on 1 gallon a day per person.
  • Beans in cans; cans should be no bigger than can be eaten in one day, to prevent the contents spoiling overnight
  • IF YOU HAVE COPD: Extra cannisters of oxygen. Size E or larger cannisters are good to keep on hand for emergencies that make travel difficult.
  • Toilet paper
  • Warm coat and warm blankets
  • Foot-powered transportation – bicycle, nonelectric scooter, skateboard, your feet
  • FOR YOUR ANIMALS: Food for pets and livestock
