Dear Ones,

Ravens go ‘Tok-Tok-Tok’. Guess what they see?!

There is an edited Summary after the video.

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

Alice shows copse of trees.

Alice to Readers (whispering): That’s where Ravens are.

Alice to Readers (caption): There are Ravens in this copse of trees.

Raven speaks Tok-Tok-Tok language …

This is the Raven’s Tok-Tok-Tok Language – Can You Hear It?

As you can hear, my ability to speak Raven Tok-Tok-Tok is not that good …

Alice’s As-Yet-Unimpressive Attempt to Speak Raven Tok-Tok-Tok

Uh oh! Two Cooper’s Hawks!

Two Cooper’s Hawks

Cooper’s Hawk ‘Kik’ Call

What is this cooing call, I wonder? Is this a Raven’s warning response to the Cooper’s Hawk ‘Kik’ call?

Mild-Mannered Raven Warning That a Hawk Is Nearby

Sidebar: What Tone of Voice to Use When Warning Others of a Hawk on the Hunt

I have heard the Ravens near my home talk about what tone of voice to use to warn each other, and to warn the Songbirds that a Hawk is nearby.

At first they tried a strident warning call, but that ired up the Hawks that live near my home. This strident warning call ired up the Hawks, who were out of temper anyway for lack of food in their tummies.

Then the Ravens at my home decided on a gentle, indulgent warning call like the one in the soundtrack above. That way the Ravens and Songbirds know what is up, but the Hawks feel Ravens are friendly and indulgent towards them. Then the Hawks don’t get into a temper.

When the Hawks get really riled up, they create quite a warlike commotion on the telepathic plane. Hawks are capable of short- and long-range planning. When they are on a war campaign with humans (as once or twice they were with me, because I fruitlessly hoped to protect my Songbirds from them) then they fume in an infuriated way, and place an insistent mental suggestion in my mind for me to fall asleep.

When I fall asleep the ired-up Hawk wreaks telepathic havoc on me and all my lineage.

Ravens know about these ruthless Hawk tactics, which wreak havoc on the harmony of a community of beings. This is the cause of their concern to adopt a Hawk-warning tone of voice that is least likely to ire up the Hawks.

Sidebar: The Difference Between Cooper’s Hawks and Ravens

Cooper’s Hawks are smaller than Ravens, and less acrobatic, but the Hawks fly much faster, and they can dive for prey at up to 120 mph. Ravens are quite wary when these Hawks are nearby. And so am I!

………………..

Alice to Readers: I try to speak Tok-Tok-Tok language again (with dismal results).

Alice to Ravens: Aw, nobody wants to play with me!

Could it be they are trying to avoid attracting the attention of those two awesome Cooper’s Hawks?
