Alice to Finches: FIN-ches! FIN-ches! FIN-ches! FIN-ches!
First Finch: That HUman [raspberry!] can speak [to] finches! Imagine that! She’s speaking to finches! (etc. etc.)
Alice to Finches: You’re right! FIN-ches!
Alice to Readers: They say: “FIN-ches! We’re FIN-ches!” They always say that: “FIN-ches! We’re FIN-ches!”
First Finch: She thinks we’re human beings! WE’RE finches. SHE is a human being. It’s really hard to explain this.
Second Finch (maybe the wife of the First Finch): Yes, it is.
Alice to Finches [repeating what they just said, so that they will know I heard them]: YOU’RE Finches. I’M not Finches.
Second Finch to Alice: You’re a PERSON. You’re a PERSON. We are FINCHES.
Second Finch, speaking to First Finch: What do you think of that?
First Finch: Perfect! Really great!
Alice to Finches: I love you! [Repeating what the Finches say:] PEO-ple! You’re PEO-ple! [Now adding my own comment:] That’s right! We’re PEO-ple! Yay!
Second Finch to First Finch: Did you think so?
First Finch: Yes. I did. You did REALLY GREAT.
Second Finch: !! Thank you. THANK you!
Alice to Finches: You’re Finches. I’m People. Yep!
Second Finch (speaking to Third Finch): She knows we are Finches but she can’t speak
the Finch language really well.
Alice to Readers: I’LL say!
Alice to Finches: I love you! I love you! Bye! See you later! So long!
Second Finch, speaking to Third Finch): She’s using second-hand English to speak
to Finches.
Third Finch: She speaks to Finches with ENGLISH?

Second Towhee to Alice [likely his wife, speaking sweetly and softly]: Yes. We’re Towhees.
Second Towhee to First Towhee (very softly): I don’t think she can hear us. She knows we’re Towhees but she can’t HEAR us. People can’t hear us because we’re speaking so sweetly and softly.
Alice to Towhees. I am asking if they will do the ‘Kabir’ call that I think may be a Towhee call:] Kabir! Kabir? [They don’t speak that word, though.]
