Dear Ones,
Here I am at Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains, talking with some exceedingly consternated Nandays and Ravens while I’m just trying to read a few sentences written long time ago by American patriot Thomas Paine.
There is a Summary after the video …

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO
What is that? What is it?
Well, Ravens are in just such a to do today. They were so upset and I finally found out that they cannot eat the corn in the corn fields around here. And they’re very put out. Yes, they’re very put out indeed. But I said, “Don’t worry, you can eat everything else around here. There’s all kinds of things to eat.” And anyway, I think corn will make your tummies upset.
But they said, “We have to have something to feed our babies, right? We have to have something to feed our babies. Our babies like corn.” And then the Nandays said:
“Our babies are hungry too!”
And so that’s the news today. So I have a quote for you from Thomas Paine’s “The American Crisis.” It was written in 1776 and it applies even today, and it goes like this.
“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will in this crisis shrink from the service of their country. But he that stands it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” That’s Thomas Paine.
. . . . .
Alice: What? Did you like it? Did you like it, Raven?
Raven: I did not like! I did not!
Alice: Why not?
Raven: I don’t like that type of stuff at all.
Alice: Raven doesn’t like that one. But you’re very angry and you’re feeling like you’re at war with the rancher right now, right? Well, if you’re at war and we’re at war, that’s the same thing, right? So, why are you angry? … Why? Could we be friends? Could we be friends? Raven, is it okay? Raven!
Raven: I don’t want to make up.
Alice: But I don’t want a war. What do you say? Let’s be friends! Please? … See you later. Bye, Raven. Raven will not yet agree to no war. Not yet.
Nandays: We want our corn. This is our corn. This is our corn. We want our corn right now, dammit.
Alice: Could we be friends? Nanday? Nanday? Maybe … No. Everybody’s angry today. What’s going on? … You are angry. Why? could we be friends?
Nanday: Not yet.
Alice: Not yet? Okay. What?
Alice to Readers: Thomas Paine’s not working out. And the Nandays are angry.
Nandays: Look at that! That guy has a HAMBURGER! That guy has a HAMBURGER!
Alice: What? What about a hamburger? … You want a hamburger? … I don’t know what to do.
Nandays: That guy has a HAMBURGER! He’s eating it, and WE WANT THAT FOOD! We want it TO EAT!
Raven: Yep, Yep!
Nandays: We NEED it to EAT!
Raven: Yep, Yep!
Alice: You guys are great. You’re great.
Alice to Readers: I think those are young Nandays there.
Nandays: We’re grown up!
Alice: You’re grown up Nandays. Okay … Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. I love you.
Nanday: Nitwit!
Alice: Nitwit?! I’m a Nitwit?! … Awww!
. . . . .
Despite the bad press I was going on and looking at a little bit more of Thomas Paine’s letter and most of it is not relevant because it had to do with Britain taxing American people unfairly and that’s not the case. Today the case is otherwise. But the end of his pamphlet “Common Sense” I found to be particularly helpful and inspiring. It goes like this …
Okay. “I have as little superstition in me as any man living. But my secret opinion has ever been and still is that God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction or leave them unsupportedly to perish who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war by every decent method which wisdom could invent …”
That’s a Raven … I mean, that’s a Nanday.
” … by every decent method which wisdom could invent. Neither have I so much of the infidel in me as to suppose that he has relinquished the government of the world and given us up to the care of devils, as I do not. I cannot see on what grounds the king of Britain can look up to heaven for help against us. A common murderer, a highwayman, or a housebreaker has as good a pretense as he.”
Thomas Paine had some cheek, had he not. He had a lot of courage and we have to have courage today too, I think. That’s the main thing.
You know, the Ravens are standing up for what they believe in. They think they should get that corn. And the Nandays are supporting the Ravens.
And I’m supporting the United States. We should have a chance at prosperity just like all the nations of the world.
God bless you all.
Keep you safe,
And be with you
Through all your days.
In love, light, and joy,
This is Alice B. Clagett.
I Am of the Stars.
And …
Nanday: … so are you!
Alice: That’s right! ” … so are you.”
Alice to Readers: They know everything, these guys.
Alice: You guys are so smart. Yes, you are. You’re the smartest ones … It’s true. It’s true. You’re so so smart … And I love you.
Alice: Okay, so that’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to detente with the Nandays, right? Thank you!

Here I am at King Gillette Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains, talking with Songbirds bad Mountain Lions and Ravens and a Hummingbird and Woodpeckers and Coyotes about the different sorts of Earth Animals and why humans walk on two legs and whether they have seen any ETs.
Can you hear the grumbling, grouse-around beings who are speaking in the video? Is it Gnomes or Trolls … or maybe Dwarves of the Nature Spirit realm? Could it be very large Ground Hogs? Is it those Turtles? They do go on and on!: “You can see those legatory ETs on youtube, not here!”
The conversation gets heated from time to time, but my hope is you will enjoy the story of walking and talking with the animals.
Happy New Year to everyone!

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO
Hello, Dear Ones. It’s Alice. I Am of the Stars.
Check it out. Icicles everywhere. Oh, snowflakes.
Hawk: Fear, Fear, Fear, Fear, Fear, Fear, Fear!
Alice to Hawk: What? Fear, fear, fear. What’s wrong? Oh, okay. You’re afraid I might mention the word Mountain Lion. Is that Squirrel? Squirrel. Fear, Fear, Fear. Fear, Fear, Fear? Did you know that that Baby Parrots say that too? Do Baby Nanday say that? Fear, Fear, Fear?
Songbird said they might say that. It’s a big secret.
Alice to Readers: See them? [Shows snowflake ornaments hanging above.] Here. There you go. Okay, listen to this: Fear, Fear, Fear, Fear, Fear!
Hummingbird: Cut that out!
Alice (repeating): Quiet, Alice Clagett. Right. You guys are great. Is that Hummingbird? Okay. Okay. That means I agree. I’ll be quiet. Okay. That’s what mammals say. Okay. Okay, I’ll be quiet.
Where are the Ducks? Ducks? Ducks! Ducks! Wow.
Alice to Ducks: Ducks. Pleased to meet you. Good, good Ducks!
Alice to Readers: Waterfall over there, I guess. Or a dam. I don’t know where that water’s going. I don’t think I can find out either.
Alice: Babies fell down? Oh no! Babies fell down and you can’t follow them? Oh no.
Hummingbird: Coyote will EAT your BA-bies? Tsk!
Alice to Ducks: What? All the babies fell down? Oh no. So sorry …
Alice to Readers: I was just talking to those odd Ducks down there. They said all of their Babies fell down that precipice of water during the rain and couldn’t get back up. And one by one, ‘Mike D’ ate them up. I think maybe they were talking about Coyotes that time.
And so I said, “It’s going to rain again next week, they think. So why not wait to lay more eggs till after that?
And then the Raven found out about the Baby Ducks and it perfidiously summoned the Hawk to come and eat them up.
Raven (embarrassed): Coyote [using a code word for this], not Hawk!
Songbird: We did SAY Coyote!
Raven (relieved): That’s right, not Hawk!
Alice to Readers: I said, “Raven, don’t do that. The Ducks really care a lot about their Babies.”
You can hear the Raven saying that still. It said: “Hawk, Hawk, Hawk, Come eat the Babies up.”
Alice to Raven: Why would you say that? Don’t you like the Ducks? Raven: No, I don’t like Ducks at all.
Alice to Readers: That’s an unusual attitude. You see, individuality [big personality differences] sometimes happens. While I was over by the Anthony C. Beilenson Interagency Visitor Center, I was explaining to the Ravens and the Songbirds. Songbirds were responding. The Ravens were just listening. They don’t believe anything too muchl
I was explaining the difference between Mammals and other types of animals. What is a Mammal? We went through that at great length. And is a Coyote a Mammal? Is a Mouse a Mammal? Is a Person a Mammal? Why is a Person a Mammal? Well, long long ago, …
Songbird: Right! We already know about that.
Alice: … long long long long time ago, People walked on four legs.
Songbird: My God! God! How could that be true?
Alice to Readers: Their hands used to be legs. Primates …
Songbird: Primates? Are you a Primate? …
Alice to Songbird: Yeah, I’m a Primate type of Mammal. We walk on two legs, but almost all mammals walk on four legs.
Songbird: Very GOOD! She says they’re Mammals that are walking on two legs!
Alice to Songbird: They call us the ‘Hu’ – Human Mammals.
Alice to Readers: So … I was just talking to the Songbird. So we went through all the different kinds of Mammals hereabouts and then we were talking about … They already know about the Birds. Birds fly, they have feathers. Mostly Mammals have four legs, no wings. Then we talked about …
Songbird: Fish!
Alice: Fish, right. Then we talked about Fish. And then Fish have fins. And Fish have scales too, but they swim in the water. They have no legs.
Songbird: What?
Alice: No legs. None at all.
Alice to Readers: Reptiles. Then we talked about Reptiles.
Songbird: We know a very great deal about silly old Reptiles.
Alice: What’s a Reptile? Reptiles have no wings, right? No feathers, right? No fur.
Songbird: They don’t have fur! [Fish or People, I wonder?]
Alice (opting for People): We do have fur, but it’s just very small. The men have fur on their faces. Humans, you know, that’s fur on their faces sometimes … sometimes not.
Alice to Readers: And the beat goes on.
So, we had some trouble with Reptiles because all the Reptiles I know are Rattlesnakes and Fence Lizards.
But a lady walked by and mentioned Alligators. I guess Alligators are Reptiles. [Yes, Alligators are Reptiles.]
And I wonder about Turtles maybe. I don’t know. [Turtle: Yes, Turtles are Reptiles. ‘Mike D’ (meaning Coyote?) told me so too.]
And then we talked about Birds with no feathers they can fly with. Those that I know of are Ostriches.
Alice to Songbird: Ostrich!
Alice to Readers: … and Emu.
They don’t live here. They live in the zoo and in Australia or someplace like that. [Emus live in Australia. Ostriches live in Africa.] They run around. They’re really huge. They run around. There’s some in the mountains, but not near here. They live on a farm. They live on an Emu ranch, right? They have feathers, but they can’t fly.
Songbird (perplexed): Bird can’t fly in the AIR AIR!
Alice: They’re too big. They can’t fly.
Alice to Readers: So, here’s another story. [This story took place at the Anthony C. Beilenson Interagency Visitor Center at King Gillette Ranch.] This is a Raven – Hawk Story.
Okay. The Raven was saying, “Stop talking. Stop talking. Alice Clagett (or Dharm Darshan), Stop talking.” And I said, “Okay” each time. But they kept saying, “Stop talking.”
And then a man who was there said, “‘Okay’ means ‘I agree’ for Humans; it means they’ll stop talking.”
And then I went for a walk over by the “Stop Talking Raven.” And it turned out it was talking to its Children. And there was a Hawk nearby. Hawks and Ravens always live near each other.
The youngest Baby talked. And the Hawk heard it and came and grabbed the youngest Baby and fed it to its Hawk Child. And the young Hawk Child said, “Feed me. Feed me. Feed me.” That was the Hawk Child.
So now Raven Mother has only one large Raven Child that’s very, very quiet.
Now you know …
Look, they have this beautiful reindeer display this again this year …
What? Woodpecker? Woodpecker? Hummingbird?
And they have this other display again this year. Wow. And then they have Kwanzaa over here. Yeah. Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Wow. All kind of good stuff.
Look at that [shows a building with steam coming out of a vent.] See, somebody’s in there. That’s unusual. Somebody without a car.
Wow, there’s a ghostly voice. Can you hear it? “Okay. So, we congregate in here.” Did you hear that? Did you get a psychic impression?
This is a magic camcorder. It takes psychic impressions. Wait a minute. I’ll tell you what kind of camcorder it is … Sony HDR CX220.
Raven said … It was grumbling and muttering, and it said (speaking on behalf of the Hawks), “Because we want them to fear us.” Seems self-evident, I guess.
Alice: Wow. Noisy, too. And a big one, too. [Hawk is putting on an impressive aerial display, but it is hard to see here.]
Alice: Big big big one. Fear, fear, fear, fear.
[Hawk continues with ‘Fear’ call.]
Alice: That’s a grownup Hawk. Fear, fear, fear, fear, fear. I got it. I’m scared. I’m very scared …
That’s the locomotive this year, too. Look, from before! But it got rained out this year. It rained like crazy. There was a deluge. Like in the Bible … there was a deluge.
Nanday: My God, a deluge!
Alice: Yeah. A deluge.
Alice to Readers: Did you hear that? Who said that?
Nanday: ‘Mike’ did. ‘Mike’ said there’s a deluge.
Alice: Mike’ did? ‘Mike’ said there’s a deluge?
Alice to all the beings: Who is that that said that?
Alice to Readers: Well, so here we have the Elf Village again. It’s looking really wet, but it’s still here, and that’s great. Look at that. The Elves are still there, just for pretend, Right. Maybe they’ll dry out.
Nanday: That Coyote does not know anybody named Alice Clagett.
Alice to Readers: Dear, dear, dear.
Alice (miffed) to Nanday: Everybody here calls her [me] Dharm Darshan Kaur. Dharm D. That’s right. My friend Dharm D.
Alice to Readers: [about the Elf Village …] Cool. Nice, huh?
Everybody’s gone. It’s between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Okay, I have to say the conversation has gotten interesting. I was talking to the Birds. The word ‘taken’ came up because the Birds were talking about the Baby Ravens that are taken by the Hawks. They were saying they were ‘taken’. And that reminded me of that story about Human Children and Human Women and Human Men that are sometimes said to be ‘taken away’ by beings in the sky … and that then later the beings in the sky bring the people back again. This is a story that I’ve heard. I was saying: “And they call these beings in the sky … they call them ETS. ET. ET. ETs.”
And I don’t know because no one has ever ‘taken’ me, right? But there are people who swear that they were ‘taken’ and then brought back again.
So I asked the Songbirds here at King Gillette Ranch … I said, “What do you think? Is there such a thing as ETs?”
And way over there, in the woodlands, a Woodpecker said, “Yes, we have seen them.”
Alice to all the beings: Anybody else seen them? Seen the ETs? Anybody else? Who said that?
Alice to Readers: The people over there, they said very quietly, sotto voce, if you will, “We haven’t seen them, but we know they’re here.” Here at King Gillette Ranch. Who would think that? Who would think that?
Raven: Hawk, Hawk, Hawk!
Alice: Has the Raven seen them?
Raven: Hawk, Hawk!
Alice: ETs?
Raven: Hawk, Hawk, Hawk!
[Can you hear the grumbling, grouse-around beings? Is it Gnomes or Trolls … or maybe Dwarves of the Nature Spirit realm? Could it be very large Ground Hogs? Is it those Turtles? They do go on and on!: “You can see those negatory ETs on youtube, not here!”]
Alice: Has the Hawk seen them? ETs?
Raven: Hawk?
Raven said: “I saw Hawk.” He’s saying. not ET.
Then I said, “Has Hawk seen them?”
And he said, “Not.” Let’s keep listening.
Alice to Songbirds: Are there Songbirds here? To Songbirds: Have you seen them?
Groundhog: No, we have not seen them.
Raven: Hawk, Hawk!
Alice: Who is that that’s talking? There’s a Mammal talking. Is that Groundhog?
Raven: Hawk, Hawk, Hawk!
Alice to Readers (about exhibit): Look at this.
Raven: Hawk, Hawk, Hawk!
Alice to Readers: So over there in the woodlands, a Woodpecker saw them, but nobody else over here. This is too close to People, I think. That’s why.
Raven: Hawk, Hawk, Hawk! … Stop talk!
Alice: Why? Why stop talking? Ravens are saying, “‘Mike D’ says, ‘Stop.'” Right? Stop talking. [In this case, as you will soon see, the Raven Sentinel is referring to another Raven Sentinel that he knows … as will soon become clear. He is calling his Raven friend ‘Mike D’.] Raven: Stop! Stop talking! Stop!
Alice to Raven: I would just like to know … because some People say it’s true, but I never saw one. Have you seen one? An ET? Extraterrestrial? Well? You guys are high in the sky. If anybody sees them, you should see them. Is that not right?
Raven 1: Stop!
Raven 2: Stop!
Raven 1: Stop!
Raven 2: Stop!
Raven 1: Stop!
Alice tp Ravems: Okay, that was a duet. Thanks, dudes. It’s been great talking to you today.
Raven 1: Stop! Stop!
Alice: See you guys later. So long.
Ravens 1 and 2 (simultaneously): Stop! Stop!
Alice to Ravens: Okay, here’s the thing about ETs. They say they live in the Sky and they sometimes walk on the Earth. ETs! ETs.
[Who is that? Hawk? He is saying: We KNOW about ETs!]
And they say they look like Human Beings …
Hawk: Shit! Human Beings! Wow! ETs!
Alice: … or sometimes Birds’ heads or sometimes Cats’ heads … looking like a Human Being. So what do you got? Cough up something. What have you got?
Hawk:These ETs are something else, Dharm D!
Alice to Raven: You ought to know something about this thing. I don’t know anything. I’m asking you. There you are. High up in the Sky. And that’s where they live. Way, way high in the Sky. What do you got? Raven! Don’t say, “Stop!”
Raven: Stop!
Alice: Stop that! Don’t say, “Stop!”
Raven: Ask Hawk!
Alice: Why? [Ravens continue on and on with ‘Ask Hawk!]

Raven (over and over again): Ask Hawk!
Alice: Huh?
Alice to herself, regarding Raven: Scared. Scared of the ETS.
Alice to Raven: Raven, I’m not frightened of the ETs. Don’t you be scared either. No, I’m not scared at all. Don’t you be scared at all. No, we’ll call the good ETs to come and help us.
You want to know who they are? Ask the Hathors for help. Hathors. Don’t forget.

Hawk: Yeah. Ask them to help us. ‘Mike D’ says that.
Alice: That’s how you say it. “Help us. The bad ETS are here. Help us, please. Help us. May all the good ETs help us.” Okay? Don’t forget.

Lizard (overlay on helicopter sound): Why would she leave us out of all this sarcasm stuff?

Alice: ‘Bye ‘bye, Woodpecker. See you later. ‘Bye ‘bye. See you guys later. Wow, what good fancy flyers you are. My golly. Beautiful flyers. Wow. Woodpeckers came to visit. There were four. Three or four. Ah, such fancy flyers.
Lizard (overlay on helicopter sound): I goddamn hate her for leaving us out.
[Oh gosh, faux pas. Ok, then. I’m not a fan of Lizard Star Beings, but I do wish the best for all beings everywhere.]
. . . . .
Alice to Acorn Woodpecker: There you are. Red Headed Woodpecker. Wow. ACORN Woodpecker.

Alice to Readers: This is a Christmas village.
Acorn Woodpecker said, “Take a picture. Take a picture. Take a picture. Take a picture.” Did you hear it?
Alice to Acorn Woodpecker: Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Nice pictures.
Alice to Readers: Beautiful Bird. Acorn Woodpecker. Wow. Hummingbird!
Acorn Woodpecker: Exactly ‘xactly ‘xactly ‘xactly. That’s a Hummingbird.
Alice to Hummingbird: Hummingbird! Where’s that hummingbird? Beautiful hummingbird. Wow. I can’t find you though. You’re so beautiful.
Alice to Readers: Well, it’s been quite a day, hasn’t it? Couple of days after Christmas … coming up, New Year’s Day in another bunch of days. And another big rain apparently coming up. Well, it’s been great to talk to all of you and all the other beings.
We had such a ‘to do’ about the ETs. I guess there’s a lot of fear about ETs.
We just asked for the good ETs. Hathors … that was too much for them. And not Sekhmet. We just asked for the good ETs. And that’ll do it … just in case, because they’re here to protect us … us and the Birds and the Mammals. All the Mammals. Everybody. Okay. So, ask for the good ones. That’s what we arrived at.
I took a picture of Acorn Woodpecker. He is now in the movies. And that’s great because here on Gillette Ranch, there are always movies being made all the time. And it’s good to have a special film with Acorn Woodpecker in it, isn’t it? And all his family said hi to me. All of them.
Alice to unknown being: What is that?

Hummingbird: Dharm D, Those are the Turtles. There’s three Turtles in that swimming pool there. See them basking in the Sunlight?
Alice to Readers: There it is.
Turtle: Don’t look at us, goddamn it all.

. . . . .
Alice: Now I think this might be a Reptile.
Turtle: Yeah, I’m a Reptile.
Alice: What are you?
Hummingbird: He says he’s a Reptile.
Turtle: Goddamit, I’m a Reptile!
Alice (repeating): ‘Turtle, Goddamn you.’ I heard that. Why did you say godamn you?
Turtle: Jesus Christ! I’ve been here for 73 years and I don’t like you to look my way. I don’t feel good right now …
Alice: I hope you get better, too. You hurt your leg? I hope you feel better and better and better. That’s a fine picture of you.
Alice to Readers: Curioser and curioser! Just as I left the Turtles I met a man on the bridge who said (telepathically): I spoke with the Turtle. He said he was 105 years old. [105 … not 73?]
The Turtle was having trouble finding a wife.
I said to the Turtle, “At our age, luckily, we don’t need one!”

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO
“Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!”
By Alice B. Clagett
Hello, everyone! Merry Christmas!
I was just outside a little after dawn …
[Can you hear what the Songbirds and the Coyotes are saying? Are there people speaking on the psychic plane?]
… and there was a special rainbow outside. It’s gone now though.
It really rained hard last night. And now the Sun is out. Let me show you. And
it’s a great day to celebrate Christmas.
[Shows Raven flying away.]
Alice to Raven: Mr. Raven! Yay. So long. Merry Christmas, Raven.
[Shows rainbow.] Oh, there’s the rainbow again. Wow. Nice, huh?
And here … over here … [shows Industrial Park] … the Sun is just striking
over there.
[Shows rainbow.] Nice. Where does that rainbow go?
Where did the rainbow go? I don’t know.
It did that just as the Sun went under the clouds again.
[Can you hear the man speaking on the telepathic plane?]
Rainbow. Beautiful rainbow. You have to wonder why it ends in the industrial park. Must
be something good going on over there.
[Pans to bright pink bougainvillea.]
Hummingbird to Alice: Merry Christmas!
Alice to Hummingbird: Merry Christmas!
Hummingbird to Alice: And Happy New Year!
Alice to Hummingbird: That’s right. Happy New Year.
Songbird 1 to Songbird 2: Say ‘Merry Christmas.’
Songbird 2 to Songbird 1: Thank you, Dee!
Alice to Songbirds: Yeah, that’s right. Merry Christmas.
Hummingbird to other Songbirds: She said, “Merry Christmas.”
Alice to Hummingbird: Right. Happy New Year!
Hummingbird to Alice: Happy New Year to you too!
Alice to Hummingbird and other Songbirds: Good work. You Songbirds know how to say that now. Pretty hard words to learn, too.
Hummingbird to other Songbirds: That is really true.
Alice to Hummingbird and other Songbirds: Good work. Good work.
God bless you all
And keep you safe,

INTRODUCTION
Dear Ones,
Here is a conversation with Ravens, Songbirds, Scrub Jays, Mountain Lions, Ground Hogs, and Coyotes at Malibu Creek State Park, Santa Monica Mountains, California, on 4 December 2025.
Right after that I went to Paramount Ranch, which is nearby. Immediately I got out of the car, all the birds assured me there were no Mountain Lions at that location just then. It was uncanny … almost as if word of what had happened in the below video had spread like wildfire, all the way to the Songbirds at Paramount Ranch! What transpired then is worth waiting for. I will save that video for another day.
Meanwhile, in this first video the Ravens teach me to toughen up and scare the Mountain Lions away by shouting: Stop! Stop! …
I was just heading back along Crags Trail and Ravens said: Dharm Dar! (First they ask your name.)
Ravens said: Dharm Dar! Great big Mountain Lion right behind you! Say: Stop! Stop!
So I turned around and i said to the direction the Ravens said there were Mountain Lions (of which I saw none): Stop! Stop! … Then I said to the Ravens: How was that?
Ravens said: Pretty good! [Modelling how to say it] Stop! Stop!
[You can hear Ravens saying this in the background on the video.]
Alice to Readers: Can you hear them?
[Ravens are talking on video.] Alice to Ravens: Yeah, I got it. Can you hear them?
Alice to Ravens: Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! … How did I do?
Lady Raven to Alice: Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!
Alice to Ravens: Got it! Thank you! Thank you, Ravens! Thank you!
Alice to Readers: Hear them? They are explaining how. They are doing great! And just in case [in case they are right about the Mountain Lions] I have to get going [back to the parking lot] … Here is what the Mountain Lion said … In a low voice he said: All right, I’ll stop.
The Mountain Lion said that before, and he didn’t stop. I was walking right fast, and strongly, and over on the right I heard a young Mountain Lion say: I’m going to see where the action is.
I can’t believe they picked up this [slang] vocabulary!
The Ravens said earlier they have to teach all the animals how to say: Stop! Stop! Stop!
They are pretty good, those Ravens, are they not?
Alice to Songbirds: Senorita! Pleased to meet ya … Anybody? … Senorita! Pleased to meet ya. Pleased to meet ya. [no reply to that; instead I am urged to move faster] Ok, I’ll move faster.
Alice to Readers: The Songbirds don’t want to say “Senorita! Pleased to meet ya.” They think I should just move faster.
Scrub Jay to Alice: Right! That’s a Mountain Lion back there. Mountain Lion right behind you, d-mmit! Please move faster! That was a Mountain Lion. Please move faster.
Alice to Scrub Jay: Ok.
Scrub Jay to Alice: Don’t look back.
Alice to Scrub Jay: Why not?
Scrub Jay to Alice [shouting]: Mntn Lion [meaning Mountain Lion!] Mountain Lion!
Alice to Scrub Jay: What?
Scrub Jay to Alice: RIGHT back there! Right be-HIND you! G-DDAMNIT IT! … RIGHT BEHIND YOU!
Alice [louder]: Ok, ok, ok!
Alice to Readers [repeating]: Mountain Lion. Get out of here quick!
Alice to Scrub Jay: I hear you. Where is it? Where is it?
Scrub Jay to Alice: RIGHT be-HIND you! RIGHT be-HIND you! RIGHT be-HIND you!
Alice to Scrub Jay: THANK you!
Alice to Readers [repeating]: Right behind you, Dharm Darshan Kaur.
. . . . .
I hate this. I really hate this. The Rangers say it’s fine, the Mountain Lions are far away. And the birds go nuts. Who am I to believe here? “Right behind me?” … or “No”? The Mountain Lions are right good at concealing themselves if it is true that they are right behind me.
Alice to Scrub Jay: Well, where are they, though?
Ground Hog to Alice [speaking on the Wind]: Ground Hog WILL say they are not really right behind you. They might be farther away than that, Dharm Darshan Kaur. Farther away than that, don’t you see?
Alice to Ground Hog: Who IS that saying that?
Ground Hog to Alice [speaking on the Wind]: I ARE the Ground Hog, Dharm Darshan Kaur. That’s who I really am [x5].
[At the bridge before the parking lot at Malibu Creek State Park …]
Alice to Readers: Nutsifying! This is nutsifying!
Young Coyote to Alice: Keep walking!
Alice to Young Coyote: Who is that? Who is that saying ‘Keep walking’? Is this the Troll of the Bridge?
Alice to Readers: It said “Keep walking, Dharm Darshan Kaur.”
Alice to Troll of the Bridge [in a deep voice]: Who is that down there? Who is that down there? Troll of the Bridge!
Unknown Being [tenor voice]: KEEP WALK-ing, Dharm Darshan Kaur!
Hummingbird [tickled pink]: KEEP WALK-ing!
Alice to Troll of the Bridge [in a deep voice, for the sake of the Hummingbird, who is listening]: Keep walking, Dharm Darshan Kaur! … Who is that down there? Woo! Woo!
Tenor voice: We ARE the Trolls of the Bridge! [I think this was a Young Coyote pretending to the be the Troll!]
Hummingbird to Alice: Who is it?
Alice to Troll of the Bridge [in a deep voice, for the sake of the Hummingbird, who loves this story]: Woo! Woo! Who is that down there? Woo!
Tenor voice to Alice: We ARE the Trolls of the Bridge! [I think this was the Young Coyote pretending to be the Troll.]
Alice to Troll of the Bridge: Woo-hoo. Woo-hoo! Yoo Hoo!
Gruff voice [maybe Father Coyote]: You all, CUT THAT OUT! There are no Trolls under that silly old bridge!
Alcie to Readers: Did you hear the Yoo Hoo Troll .. the Troll of the Bridge? I didn’t know there was one down there.
[Alice arrives at parking lot.]
Alice to Readers: Ok, here is another Raven that does it differently.
Alice to Raven: Out! Out! Out! … Did I do it ok?
Father Raven to Alice: Out! Out! Out!
Mother Raven to Alice: Out! Out! Out!
Alice to Mother Raven: I heard that! Somebody else said ‘Out! Out! Out!’ too.
[Forest personnel are talking and laughing.]
Alice to Father Raven: Who is that over that that said that with you?
Mother Raven to Alice: Out! Out! Out! Out!
Father Raven: Moun-tain Lion!
Mother Raven [just learning the words]: Moun-tain Lion!
Alice to Ravens: Moun-tain Lion! Mntn Li-n [abbreviated form used by birds in emergencies; like contractions such as ‘can’t’ that are used in human language]
Hawk on the wing [Kestrel?] to all of us: It’s REAL-ly not there there there there!
Ravens: Not! Not! Not! Not!
Alice to Readers: No, it’s way back there [far back on the trail] … Mountain Lion. Right.
Young Hawks [?] to all of us: Where? Where? Where? Where? …. Where? Where? Where? Where?
Father Raven to Young Hawks: STOP that!
Alice to Young Hawks: That’s what they said. That’s what your friends said. Out! Out! Out!
Father and Mother Raven: Out! Out! Out!
Alice [imitating Ravens]: Out! Out! Out! Out! … Good work!
Father Raven [embarrassed]: STOP that.
Mother Raven [pleased]: Out! Out! Out! Out!
Hawk: Where? Where? Where? Where?
Father Raven: Out! Out! Out! Out!
Hawk to Father Raven: Where? Where?
Father Raven to Hawk [gruffly]: I don’t know where it is.
Alice to Readers: So I guess you can say we’re just having a talk about the best way to say ‘Out! Out! Out!’ … Everybody has their own version of it. They are doing such a good job! Everybody is doing great!
Kestrel: Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow!
Alice to all the beings: You guys are the Watch Guards of the Forest! Yeah, you are! You’re the Sentinels of the Forest?
Father Raven [mortified]: Stop That!
Alice to all the beings: Sentinels of the Forest! Yeah! Flies like the Wind! Strong, brave, flies like the Wind Ravens! That’s you!
Mother and Father Raven to Alice: Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!
Alice to Ravens: Yeah, that’s you!
Hawk to Alice and Ravens: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Father Raven to Alice: Stop!
Hawk to Alice: Up HERE! Up HERE! Up HERE! Up HERE! Up HERE! Up HERE! Up HERE!
[I ought to have complemented Hawk as well.]
Alice to Father Raven: Ok.
Father Raven to Alice [laughing]: Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!
Alice to Readers: They’re right modest.
Father Raven and Mother Raven take flight.
Alice to Ravens: Oh, beautiful! Beautiful! … Wow, you guys are something elese!
[All this while, Father Raven is protesting.]
Alice to Ravens: It’s so nice to see you! You’re great! You’re the greatest!
Father Raven to Alice: Stop! Stop! Stop! … Stop! Stop! Stop!
Alice to Ravens: Wow! Youse knocking my socks off! … Yes, you are! … Youse knocking my socks off!
Father Raven [speaking through his nose, he is so embarrassed]: Stop! Stop! Stop! … Stop! Stop! Stop!
Alice to Father Raven: Yeah, you!
Alice to Readers: Knocking-my-socks-off Ravens! … Other birds too!
Alice to Ravens: Who is that?
Father Raven to Alice [leaving off the consonants while speaking]: I don’t know who that is.
Alice to Father Raven: That’s nice too, isn’t it?
Father Raven to Alice: That Hawk!
Alice to Readers: Well, we’re having a good time. And the Forest Workers are having a good time. They are here bright and early, when the hoarfrost [rhime] is on the stairs. That’s that filmy, frosty white stuff … Wow! Close call, I guess! … Another close call.
WAIT! There’s a Bonus Video Clip after the Credits! …
So, I said ‘Mountain Lion’ to the birds because the Forest Service people were there and I wanted them to have a chance to learn how the birds say ‘Mountain Lion’. But instead of saying ‘Mountain Lion’ the birds headed off at a straight, silent dive directly into the thickest bushes. Well, I tried.
Earlier, though, I heard one of the larger Songbirds call the Mountain Lion, not by the contraction ‘Mntn Lin’ as the birds were saying elsewhere, but more like the Ravens sometimes speak words without consonants. The Songbirds were saying something like this: ‘Ah-oo Ah-ah’ … Something like that … ‘Ah-oo Ah-ah’ … or maybe ‘Ah-ah Ah-ah’.
It sounded a little like ‘Mountain Lion’ but they were disguising it more so that it would not be known to the Mountain Lions that the birds were talking about them.
‘Ah-oo Ah-ah’ … I hope I got it on tape.
CONCLUSION
