INTRODUCTION

Dear Ones,

This is a video about an audacious Squirrel and a Raven that knows how to get to the point right away. There is also a Mountain Lion that really upsets the Acorn Woodpeckers and me. I met them when I went for a walk in Placerita Canyon Natural Area, Newhall, California.

[Squirrel walks up to my foot. I move my foot away.]

Alice to herself: Danger, danger!

Raven: Talk, talk, talk, talk!

Alice to Squirrel: Where are you going?
Acorn Woodpecker to Raven (repeating what I said): Raven, Raven, Raven, Raven!
Raven: Talk, talk, talk, talk!

Alice to Raven: Lady Raven?
Raven: Talk, talk, talk!

Alice to Raven: Guy Raven?
Raven to Alice (embarrassed, in a ‘crunched’ voice): Don’t talk about it.

Alice to Raven: Guy Raven?
Raven to Alice: Don’t talk that.
Mountain Lion (subvocally, sounds like a hoarse whisper issuing from a large throat) to Alice: Wrong thing …

Alice to Readers: They don’t like it when I talk much.
Mountain Lion to Alice (subvocally, continuing): … to talk about that.

Raven to Alice: Talk, talk, talk, talk.
Mountain Lion to Alice: Roar-r-ring for you. Really am angry.
[Squirrel is eating an acorn.]
Squirrel (muted counter-tenor or mezzo-soprano) to Alice: PLEASE don’t talk to me when I’m EAT-ing.
Raven: Talk, talk, talk, talk.
Acorn Woodpecker (having a very upset moment): PECK-er, PECK-er, PECK-er, PECK-er!

Raven: Talk, talk, talk.
Acorn Woodpecker: Pecker, Pecker, Pecker, Pecker …
Raven: Talk.
Acorn Woodpecker (continuing): … Pecker, Pecker, Pecker, Pecker.
Another Acorn Woodpecker: Pe-e-ecker. Pe-e-ecker.

Mountain Lion: I’m AN-gry.
Raven: Talk.

Alice to Raven: Raven.
Acorn Woodpecker to Alice: Pecker, Pecker, Pecker, Pecker.

Acorn Woodpecker (distraught): PECK-er, PECK-er!
Mountain Lion to everyone (Take this with a grain of salt): ALL right. I’m not going to attack anyone.
Alice to Acorn Woodpecker: It’s ok.
Acorn Woodpecker to Alice (swallowing and cutting short his words): No, it isn’t.

Alice to Readers: I saw them go up that way just now.
Acorn Woodpecker to Alice (more or less hysterically): PECK-er, PECK-er, PECK-er, PECK-er, PECK-er, PECK-er, PECK-er!
Alice to Readers (continuing): … Big Ravens. Wow!
Acorn Woodpecker to Alice (swallowing and cutting short its words): There’s a bigger thing on the ground right there. There’s a bigger thing on the ground right there.

Alice to Readers: That Raven was saying, “Talk, talk, talk.” He meant I’m talking too much.

And then later he said, on the psychic plane: Talk too much
summons something frightening.

I said [to the Raven, on the psychic plane]: Well, but you talk?!
And it said: Fly away fast. [Alice chuckles.]
