The heart is a wingéd messenger

At night, as I lay dreaming
It flies far, to some forgotten spring,
. . . . . drinks deep
. . . . . and sitting in that glen
. . . . . dreams with me

Dawn’s light, once more returning,
It leans to whisper in my ear:

. . . . . Joy, joy, joy in the morning!
. . . . . . . . . . Joy in the breaking of the day
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Joy in the tasks that lie before thee
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Joy in the company of friends

. . . . . Joy walk before thee and behind thee

. . . . . Joy be thy rest along the way.
