When the Sun goes down
on America
What will his last glimpse be?
One day this –
The next day that.
Wait and see!
Don’t give up on America
the land of the free.
Stand up and fight
for hearth and home.
Stand by the American Dream.
When your neighbor
Hurls you a curse
Hurl him a prayer of peace.
When our children
Cry out for help
Find them a safe place to be.
When our foes
Are all around
Let hope be your stanchion
and strength be your bastion
and joy in what’s simple
and pure
and sweet
bring you a moment’s relief.
