I was recording a Woodpecker call and the Songbirds chimed in. Then three skinchanging Shamans leapt into the Songbirds and quite a commotion ensued …

Woodpecker calls out: Woodpecker! Woodpecker!

Songbird: Hee hee hee hee hee hee! LISTEN to him!

Alice calls out: Woodhecker! [Sometimes Woodpeckers call ‘Woodhecker’ and sometimes they call ‘Woodpecker’.]

Songbird to Woodpecker: That’s a re-e-e-ally pretty sound that you just made!

Alice calls out: Woodhecker!

Woodpecker: Oh thank you! Thank you very much! Very much! Thank you!

Alice to you: Can you hear it? Woodpeckers announce themselves by their name. They are really saying “Woodpecker! Woodpecker!”

Alice calls: Woodhecker! Woodhecker!

Woodpecker: That’s right! Woodpecker! Woodpecker!

Alice: I don’t know if you can hear that. They are way up the mountain. There is one up there

I have a question whether Woodpeckers always knew what their name means, or whether early humans made up the word Woodpecker because Woodpeckers peck wood? Which came first?

Alice calls: Ra-a-a-a-ven!

Songbird 1: Che-u-r-r. What does that per-r-r-son mean by that?

Songbird 2: What does she mean by it? Sheesh. How could she be so stupid?

Alice: Ra-a-a-a-ven!

Songbird 1: Stupid! There is no Raven around this area right now!

Alice calls: Woodpecker! Woodpecker!

Woodpecker: Right! Woodpecker! Woodpecker!

Alice: That’s a Songbird saying ‘Woodpecker! Woodpecker!’ right now. [I am wrong here – That is
a Woodpecker speaking.]

Songbird loudly to me: STUPID! Woodpecker is really NOT the right NAME FOR HIM! STUPID! He just likes to SING! It’s his Chirp!

Alice calls: Woodpecker! Woodpecker!

Songbird: Chirp! He’s chirping. She doesn’t REALLY understand WHAT is happening!

Alice to Songbird 1: How do! Pleased to meet you!

Songbird 1: Hee hee hee hee! Pleased to meet me!

Alice; Wow! Thank you!

Songbird 2: She says she is pleased to meet her!

Alice: Yeah! Way over there … Woodpecker.

Woodpecker: Woodpecker! ….

Alice: Dudes! Dudes!

Woodpecker: Woodpecker!

Songbird: Good God! Great God! We’re here … right here in front of you. Can’t you see us?

Alice: Wow! Look at you!

Songbird, broadcasting what I said: Look at her, look at her, look at her!

Alice: Look at you!

Songbird, broadcasting what I said: Gosh, gee! She says: Look at me, look at me, look at me!

Alice: I LOVE you!

Alice to you: It seems that three Skinchanging Shamans … now or just priorly … have leapt into three songbirds.

I say this because the tone of the Songbird conversation has turned uncharacteristically dark … toadying and hypocritical … and the Songbirds’ sentence structure has become more complex.

Also, the thoughts being expressed have more to do with human values than with the values of
Songbirds, which are full of joy, and Light, and love.

I rate the conversation that ensues 8 or 9 on the Weirdness scale, because of the abrupt change in conversational tone …

Songbird 1: I don’t think she really means it but we need to express appreciation to her.

Songbird 2: Thank you very much. We really appreciate it.

Alice: You’re welcome! Thank you!

Songbird 2: You’re right, —- [name of Shaman]. She doesn’t really love us more than anything.

Songbird 2 to me (faking it): We really like you very much. We really do!

Alice: Wow!

Songbird 2 to Songbird 1: Ok, — [name of Shaman]. Will that do?

Alice: So long, you guys. See you later! Bye bye.

Songbird 3: —- [a Shaman’s name] thinks that’s not enough, but we really think that it will be fine just as it is.

Alice: No Raven, though.
