INTRODUCTION
Dear Ones,
I was at Malibu Creek State Park in May 2025 … the peak of the Songbird mating season. Looks like the Songbirds had encountered some exuberant young people and had learned a new word that was much to their liking!
Emotional honesty is the hallmark of Songbird communication. Emotional dishonesty is not a phrase in their vocabulary. Unheard of!
Songbirds know mammals sometimes do that emotional dishonesty thing. When that happens they avoid us.
There is one exception to this that I have noticed. That has to do with Ravens. If a human being asks a Raven to say something dishonest to another human being … to dupe or trick that other person … then the Ravens make a joyful game of it.
The Ravens themselves would never think of duping or tricking. They are what you might call straightforward, forthright, open-hearted beings. They brighten up my day.
I see from youtube videos that many other people befriend birds too. That’s just great, I feel.
