Dear Ones,

A poem about cherishing the mind, though it be like quicksilver …

IF I COULD HOLD MY MIND,
LIKE A BABY CHICKEN
A Prose Poem by Alice B. Clagett
1 January 2012

If I could hold my mind, like a baby chicken,
Cupped softly in the warm darkness
of my two hands,
I would hazard a peek,
as it fluffed up its fuzz
and blinked its eyes drowsily,

And then I would whisper:
Oh, my dear mind, I am so grateful
For the comfort you give me,
For the way you sustain me here in this life.
Oh, my dear mind, come, let me love you!
Sleep softly now in this heart of mine.

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars
