Dear Ones,
I ran across a video in which an Octopus appears to be talking! …
Video: “Spy Octopus Helps Friend Hide from Shark,” Nature on PBS, 13 October 2023 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnMxd3s6u-c ..
At timeframe 2:10 and following it seems like the Coconut Octopus twice utters a bubbly whisper: THANK you kvery much. You made me very happy.
Is this real or dubbed, I wonder? I am asking because the Spy Octopus apparently is not real. Here is the lowdown from Google AI …
“No, the ‘spy octopus’ on PBS is not a real, living octopus but a sophisticated robot designed by filmmakers to observe marine life up close. The robot, which is part of the BBC and PBS series ‘Spy in the Ocean,’ uses cameras to film real animals, mimicking their behavior to gain their trust and record their natural interactions.”
So the Spy Octopus is not real. And the Coconut Octopus behaves as if the Spy Octopus is real. I am reminded of the 2000 film “Cast Away’ in which the protagonist portrayed by Tom Hanks falls in love with the volleyball.
This is awful. That Coconut Octopus must be really lonely. Not to mention, terrorized by the Black-Tipped Shark. This is one cruel video, I feel.
Science is often like that: Heartless. Devoid of Spirituality. In need of ethical guidance. A lot like high tech. Of course, as with most Earth edicts, there are notable exceptions. It raises the question: How far are we filmmakers willing to go to be popular? Some would do well-nigh anything. Others (like me) mostly toe the line.
Back on topic: Adding all this up, could be the Coconut Octopus’s voice has been dubbed. Could be real. What do you think?
God bless you all
And keep you safe,
And be with you
Through all your days!
In love, light and joy
