INTRODUCTION
Dear Ones,
This HD video has an introductory word from a grateful Hummingbird. Then there is a heart-wrenching story of the murder of a Kabir Bird by a Hawk. When I heard this story, it really set me on edge. The things that the Songbirds must deal with every day … it is just mind-boggling!
We humans are very lucky to have a culture that helps us all to stay safe and productively working. In these fortunate times, people of all ages are protected by our laws and our customs. But amongst the Songbirds, predation of eggs, nestlings, and mature birds especially by Hawks, Owls, Coyotes, Wolves, and Cougars is an everyday event.
That is why it is so painful for us to hear about the day-to-day struggle of Songbirds for survival. It is as if we were to be cast back to a time when a slim number of early humans foraged about for enough food to keep them alive.
For those early humans who lived in cold climates, the winter months were always a survival test. For those of us who lived in arid climates, the dryseason was a challenge. And so it went.
I hope the story that unfolds in this video will not prove too harrying for you.
Rationale for Slow-Speed Video Segments: The Rate of Slowdown Has to Do with the Rate of Metabolism of the Birds at the Time They Are Speaking
I have presented video segments at normal speed, then slowed them down so that you can hear better what the birds are saying.
Hummingbirds have a metabolism 77 times higher than our human metabolism. Their speech is equally fast, so I find their vocalizations need to be slowed down to Speed 0.125x for us humans to properly understand them.
It must be that Kabir Birds (which I am guessing will turn out to be California Towhees) … and also Hawks … have a metabolism in between that of Hummingbirds and humans. That must be why, when I slow the Speed of a pertinent video segment to Speed 0.25x, it is easier to understand the lingo of Songbirds and Hawks.
I note the metabolism of both Songbirds and Hawks must speed up mightily at the moment when the Hawk catches the Songbird and devours it, as I needed to slow down that video segment to Speed 0.125x so that we humans could understand what the participants in this drama were saying at the moment when tragedy struck.
So now you know the logic behind the presentation of a segment below first at normal speed, and then at a slower speed. It is to facilitate our understanding of the words the birds are saying, and the emotion that their words convey.
The video is in high definition (HD) to help present with clarity the frequency range of birds’ vocalizations.
On the Accuracy of These Transcripts of Hummingbird, Kabir Bird (California Towhee?) and Hawk Vocalizations
There is a Summary after the video.
I ought to let you know that I am a little at odds with my transcript of the Hummingbird’s speech at the beginning of the video. The emotion of the slowed video segment was clear to me, but the words shifted a little each time I listened to the slowed video segment. I hope I got it right, but I am not completely certain of that.
The speech of the Mother and Father Raven and of the Kabir Birds and the Hawk seemed crystal clear to me. I can vouch for the accuracy of my transcripts for that part of the Summary. I hope, what with high definition and all, that you will be able to distinguish these words and the emotion conveyed by the slowed Kabir Bird and Hawk segments as well.

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO – TRANSCRIPT: WHAT THE BIRDS ARE SAYING
A Great Tragedy Takes Place Amongst the Kabir Birds – and Hummingbird Has Something to Say!
By Alice B. Clagett
HUMMINGBIRD SPEAKS
* Normal Speed * – Alice had just refilled the Hummingbird feeder. Hummingbird is talking.
Alice to Readers: This is my Songbird blind! Hummingbird is speaking. . [You can see the Hummingbird blind and hear the Hummingbird.]
* Speed 0.125x * – I have slowed the video down so you can hear what Hummingbird said.
Hummingbird says: That’s some GOOD stuff. We LOVE that stuff … OH God yes!
. . . . .
MOTHER AND FATHER RAVEN SPEAK
* Normal Speed * – Mother and Father Raven are speaking.
Mother Raven sweetly says: Hawk! …
Father Raven sternly says: Hawk! Hawk! Hawk!
. . . . .
KABIR BIRDS AND HAWK SPEAK
* Normal Speed * – This is what Alice calls the ‘Kabir Bird’ sound. It could be a California Towhee, but she has no proof of that as yet.
Alice to Readers: Here is what Alice terms the ‘Kabir’ call. [You can hear the ‘Kabir’ call.]
* Speed 0.25x * – Let’s slow down the video and see what the Kabir Bird is really saying.
Kabir Bird says: Help MEEEE! … Oh my God! Great big HAWK is FLY-ing in the sky … I’m REAL-ly scared.
* Normal Speed *
A Songbird says: Kabir Bird is making all kinds of noise!
Kabir Bird interjects what sounds like CHEEP!
In the slow video clip coming up next you will find out what Kabir Bird is really saying.
Now you hear Hawk’s voice, which sounds slow and wheedling at this speed.

Dear Ones,
This HD video shows a Red-Tailed Hawk, claws extended, as it soars over the Chatsworth Nature Preserve and searches for prey. You can hear the frightened cries of the dog that lives down the hill. Word must have got round from the commotion amongst the dogs on the hill above me that the Hawks swoop down and peck the dogs’ eyes out.
If ’twere true, then no dog be safe in the San Fernando Valley! I hope this is fear, not fact. It is not just the dogs I worry about, but also their unobservant humans.

INTRODUCTION
Dear Ones,
Here is an extraordinary HD video that documents the Ravens’ Sweet Water Courtship Dance.
It could be that the Ravens began this Courtship Dance because of a pool party that was taking place at the residence down the hill from where I live. It could have been the music that was being played at the party, or maybe the sound of happy conversation amongst the young people at the party.
The Ravens’ Sweet Water Courtship Dance
By Alice B. Clagett
Hello, Dear Ones, This is Alice. I Am of the Stars.
This video is called “The Ravens’ Sweet Water Courtship Dance.”
The Ravens’ Sweet Water Courtship Dance (uncut)
[You must view this video to see the action-packed Dance performance.]
Alice to Readers: Father Raven is on the right. Mother Raven is on the left.
Alice to Ravens: Whoa! Beautiful! New Hrafns! Very famous Hrafns!
[Father Raven, who was sitting on the telephone line next to Mother Raven, wipes his beak on the telephone line, then walks away from her and up the telephone line.]
Alice to Ravens: ‘Bye, you guys! Bye!
Father Raven says telepathically to Alice: Follow me, not her!
Alice: Bye!
I pan to Father Raven. He pecks slowly, over and over again, in a formal manner, on the telephone line.
I pan to Mother Raven. She bows her head so that her beak touches the telephone line, makes a water gulping ‘Woof’ sound, then lifts her head, ripples her neck muscles, and fluffs her head and neck feathers as if she were drinking. She does this over and over again.
Father Raven backs back down the telephone line. When he gets near Mother Raven he wipes his beak off several times on the telephone line.
Alice to Readers: Father Raven rejoins Mother Raven on the telephone line. He begins to say: CLUCK-cluck-cluck CLUCK-cluck-cluck CLUCK-CLUCK.
This is not really the phonetic pronunciation of his song; it is just a distant approximation. You need to listen for slight variations in rhythm, enunciation, and melody. These variations convey different verbal messages.
Father Raven to Mother Raven: K-k-k-k-k-k-k-p!
Alice to Readers: Father Raven says to Mother Raven one more time: CLUCK-cluck-cluck CLUCK-cluck-cluck CLUCK-CLUCK.
Hummingbird flies past the dancers zip zip!, while vocalizing.
Mother Raven opens her beak as she gazes at Father Raven, who lifts his head upward a little.
The Ravens’ Sweet Water Courtship Dance (clips)
Clip 1 (which is repeated once): Father Raven pecks slowly, over and over again, in a formal manner, on the telephone line.
Alice to Readers: This is Father Raven. You see how he is using his beak? That means he is walking around. The Raven word for that today is: Walk, walk, walk! He is walking around. He is looking around for a Raven friend.
……………….. Sidebar: How the Meaning of the Raven Words ‘Walk, walk, walk!’ Changed from Raven to Raven
Hawk Fighter, the Father Raven that used to be in this locale used the term ‘Walk, walk, walk’ when he saw a Mother Hawk nearby. He wanted me to walk outside and ‘start’ the Hawk from its perch so that he could engage the Hawk in aerial combat. His intention was to upset the Hawk so that it would disgorge its food. Then the Raven or his wife would grab the food in midair so that they could eat it or feed it to their nestlings.
But this Raven pair you are viewing today use the term ‘Walk, walk, walk’ differently. They speak these words when they are leaving their tree, or when they are approaching my house. That gives me a ‘heads up’ that they are awake early in the morning, and then later that they are visiting me.
………………..
Clip 2: Mother Raven bows her head so that her beak touches the telephone line, makes a water gulping ‘Woof’ sound, then lifts her head, ripples her neck muscles, and fluffs her head and neck feathers as if she were drinking. She does this over and over again.
Alice to Readers: Mother Raven makes the sound of a Raven gulping water.
Clip 3 (which is repeated once): Father Raven backs back down the telephone line. When he gets near Mother Raven he wipes his beak off several times on the telephone line.
Alice to Readers: Father Raven backs down the telephone line till he gets near Mother Raven. Then he wipes his beak on the telephone line a few times, as if to say ‘Stop walking’ … or in modern English, ‘I stop walking.’
Clip 4 (which is repeated once): Father Raven (on the right) says to Mother Raven: CLUCK-cluck-cluck CLUCK-cluck-cluck CLUCK-CLUCK.
Alice to Readers: That is the male Raven on the right. The sound of his voice means ‘You are my Sweet Water’. That is the sound of water running in a brook in the mountains: “You are my Sweet Water.”
Clip 5 (which is repeated once): Father Raven says to Mother Raven: K-k-k-k-k-k-k-p!
Alice to Readers: Father Raven says ‘Drink!’ You can hear him speaking it phonetically. He is speaking English: Drink!
Clip 6 of Hummingbird (regular speed): Hummingbird flies past the dancers zip zip!, while vocalizing. She says to the Ravens:
Alice to Readers: Father Hummingbird zooms past, saying very quickly: So GOOD! So GOOD! So GOOD! So GOOD!
Clip 6 of Hummingbird (at speed 0.125x): Father Hummingbird to Ravens: Father Hummingbird: Aw, SO GOOD! … Ohhh, so GOOD. Aw, so GOOD!
I’ll fly by. I’ll talk soft talk. I’ll FLY BY!
Alice to Readers: Hummingbird just let me know that what it meant (in vernacular English) was: REAL good, real good, real good!
Alice to Readers: That is the cheering audience there!
Comments
You know, this is an incredible performance. It really points out how deep dance goes in portraying the mythology of a species’ tradition. It truely does. It is the same with human dance.
You can learn so much about the fundament of a civilization by viewing their dance.
The Ravens’ dance form expresses their deep connection with Earth herself … with the sacred import of the simple things of their existence.
How import the water is for survival of the Ravens! How important love is!
To the Ravens, courtship and mating have the same amount of longing in them as does the desire for water. It is that deep. It is that great!
It is not a matter of small import … of choosing this Raven one day and another Raven the next. The Raven Father and Mother are bonded as deeply as our physical beingness is bonded to the need for water in order to survive.
Pretty cool, huh? Very cool. I mean, what could humans learn from that, in these days? It might save our lives to learn what the Ravens know! Don’t you feel it to be so?
Conclusion
[I am sitting on the roof of my house.]
Alice to Readers: This is a rooftop view. I almost feel like a Raven.
Songbird expresses shock and surprise.
Alice to Readers: The Ravens are up here every morning. When they land, right at dawn, I hear ‘Thump!’ They are the first folks to wake up in the morning.
In love, light and joy

NOTE: Today I tested the low definition mp4 I made yesterday from the wlmp of this video, and found that the low definition version makes the words of the Songbirds unclear.

INTRODUCTION
Dear Ones,
I made this video as the Sun was setting over the Simi Hills in California. It was right before a geostorm occurred. Consequently, as will be seen below, the Deva of Simi Hills was looking particularly splendid.
There was an airplane passing over. It used to be that the Songbirds and Ravens thought airplanes were Hawks. That, I feel, was because the outline of an airplane is much like that of a Hawk in flight. Or so it must seem to the birds viewing these silhouettes from below.
Because the hearing of birds is very acute, the sound that airplanes make must be difficult for the birds to endure. That in addition to the mistaken notion that airplanes are voracious Hawks used to terrify the Songbirds and set the Ravens on edge.
Hawks are very wise, it’s true, and quite magnificent, but they also are I-me-my sorts of birds. They are in it for themselves. Could be they knew airplanes are not Hawks. But I can see the tactical advantage of keeping mum on this topic, if you want your prey to be terrified in the Big Cities of Earth. And keep mum on the topic was just what those canny Hawks that preyed upon my local Songbirds were doing.
I thought maybe I could ‘tip the balance’ with a word to my kind-hearted local Ravens, who are the staunch champions of the Songbirds. Thus it came about last winter that I explained to the then-local Ravens that airplanes are just machines made by humans. I explained that the airplanes had humans inside them, and that they did not intend to harm the Songbirds.
Then some weeks later I went on to explain that automobiles are similar.
The Ravens I spoke with were amazed to hear this. They thought it over for awhile … tested the theory to discern whether it was true, I guess.
From what the Songbirds say in this video I gather the Ravens have imparted their newfound knowledge about airplanes to my local Songbirds, as will be seen.
There is a Summary after the video …

Another Songbird: Yep! BIG airplane is flying in the sky! SCARY BIG airplane is SCARING us! Yep, it ISSSS scaring us!
Another Songbird: YEP! BIG BIG airplane is SCARING me as well …(quietly) It really is a big airplane.
Another Songbird (hesitantly changing the topic): Say! Did you hear the RAVEN talking about these AIR-planes?
A Songbird replies quietly: No, I did not hear anything.
The other Songbird replies: Well, RAVEN said that airplanes have PEO-ple in them.
A Songbird replies quietly: People in them? Could that be?
Songbird: Oh Dear, Could that be? I think that might be it. YEP. Maybe that’s IT. Yep. That could be IT. RIGHT! (etc.)
Songbird: I really don’t know if airplanes are making the noise … or could it be PEO-ple are making the noise? I really don’t know.
