Dear Ones,
Here is a video of a Tiger Whiptail lizard (Aspidoscelis tigris). Some whiptail species are parthenogenetic … female lizards that lay unfertilized eggs. These have been nicknamed Amazon warriors. By the by, I read that the boa constrictor, monitor lizard, and Komodo dragon can also reproduce parthenogenetically, as can such insects as bees, ants, and aphids.
I see when the faint noise of a high-flying airplane is heard on the video, the Tiger Whiptail lizard seems to feel pain (judging from the change in its eye and in the tilt of its head) and then places its left hand twice beside its left tympanic membrane (its lizard ear). I figure that might be an attempt to muffle the sound.
