I crunched the numbers, and found the total COVID-19 deaths in California for 2020 to date to be much less than I thought..

Here is my calculation ..
3,609 California COVID-19 deaths / 39,510,000 California population x 100 (to get percent) = .009 percent California COVID-19 death rate for 2020 to date.
That is to say, COVID-19 deaths for California for 2020 to date are one hundred times less than about 1 percent of the population.
The same formula can be used to determine the death rate for other states, by plugging in the numbers from this New York Times article …
