INTRODUCTION
Dear Ones,
Here is the third and last video in the Holy Week series. I talk with a Mountain Lion and the Woodpeckers.
There is an edited Summary after the video …
VIDEO BY ALICE
TURN YOUR AUDIO up HIGH to hear the Songbirds!
SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO
Alice to Readers: I was just asking the Songbirds if there were any ‘you know what’! … [sotto voce] … Mountain Lions! … over here. And over there [nods to left] the birds said …
It was an interesting bird. I don’t know what kind of bird. It said: They ate something really big and then they fell asleep.
Alice to Readers: This is my lucky day!
That might be a Scrub Jay over there [nods to left].
I am in Malibu Creek State Park, and I started going up Mott Road towards Salvation Army.
[That is Lawrence M. Daley Camp and Conference Center, Calabasas. The Salvation Army Camp is adjacent to the Tapia Park Public Use Area which is a subunit of Malibu Creek State Park. Also adjacent to Tapil Park is David Gonzalez Camp School, which is a juvenile detention center for Los Angeles Probation County Probation. Continuing with the video talk …]
And somebody over here [leans to right] said on the telepathic plane: Don’t go anywhere except where they TELL you to go.
Coyote [in a hushed, conspiratorial, mocking voice]: Ri-i-i-ght! Don’t go where we don’t TELL you to go. We really don’t WANT you to go up THAT road.
Alice to Readers: See? Mott Road to Salvation Army, right? …

. . . . .
Alice to Readers (continued): And then I started walking up this road [starts walking up a dirt road]. I will show you what happened …
Raven: DHARM! Don’t . walk . up . THAT . road . at . ALL. NOT AT ALL. NOT AT ALL. NOT AT ALL.
We have this landmark right here [on the righthand side of the trail]. See this big fallen tree trunk? …

. . . . .
… I heard … It sounded like a far-away airplane …
Acorn Woodpecker: Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! That’s a Mountain Lion over there.
Alice to Readers: It [the Mountain Lion] said: …
Acorn Woodpecker: Yes it was ! It was a BIG, BIG Mountain Lion!
Alice to Readers (continued): “Know that there is a Mountain Lion over here.” Only it didn’t sound female. The voice sounded male. It said [spoken in a lower voice]: Know that there is a Mountain Lion over here …
Songbird [in a hushed, carefully considering voice]: Ye-e-es. That IS what it sounded like.
So I am not going that way [up Mott Road] after all.

. . . . .
What a great hike this has been! The Mountain Lions caught something really, really big. And they ate so much that they fell asleep!
All the other animals are very relaxed right now. They get into such a dither when the Mountain Lions are so, so hungry! Remember? And right now everybody is very happy.
Even the Hawk gets along OK with the Songbirds right now. Everybody’s happy. I am happy too! There is not one story about a Mountain Lion stalking me.
Of course, this is a special week. There are a lot of school children on the trail, and a lot of grown-ups. Maybe that has something to do with it.
Look! California Poppies. Wow! …

Acorn Woodpecker 2: That CRANK-y [making a sound like a squeaky crank turning] stuff has got to go! Picture-taking is ok.
[sound of man approaching with children]
Coyote [sounding groggy, deep, whispered, jocular overlay]: He woke up Coyote. Coyote doesn’t WANT to wake up.
Songbird 1: WHAT?!
Alice to Woodpeckers: Hey!
Coyote [sounding groggy]: ‘Hey! woke me up too.
Hummingbird to Alice: What-is-it?
Alice to Birds: Hey, good morning!
Songbird [piping enthusiastically, speaking of Coyote, I think]: HERE he is! TAKE a PIC-ture! TAKE a PIC-ture!
Coyote to Alice: He doesn’t WANT you to take a picture!
Alice to Birds: Oh, yeah. Pleased to MEET you!
Coyote man [like the breath of a hushed wind – menacing, amused]: Pleased to meet you!
Woodpecker: God damn it all, she woke up that Coyote. [Flies to another tree.] … Ha . Ha . Ha . She thinks Coyote is another Bird! [Close! I didn’t know Coyote had woken up.]
Alice to Woodpecker: Bye! See you later!

NOTES
I didn’t hear Coyote talking till I reviewed the video. Looks like that man that was shouting and I woke Coyote up by mistake. Then Woodpecker got grousy about that. Songbird was alarmed, I missed out on taking a photo of Coyote. That’s life in Malibu Creek State Park, I guess.
Oh, yes! I meant to mention this: I was listening to the Coyote talk on the video and trying to figure it out. I listened over and over again. The doors were open from the room where I was to the back yard, so as to allow morning air cooling of my house.
The Coyote family in the juniper shrubs beyond my backyard fence heard the Coyote on the video, and started talking to me, contradicting what I figured the Coyote on the tape was saying. I think they were just being their usual tricky selves, though, so I didn’t change the transcript on account of Wiley Coyotes amongst the juniper shrubs. No way!

MORE INFORMATION
Tapia Public Use Area, where the mountain lion attack described in this KTLA 5 video took place, is part of Malibu Creek State Park …
Video: “5-Year-Old Boy Attacked by Mountain Lion at Malibu Creek State Park,” by KTLA 5, 3 September 2024 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntd3FTxxFHw …
Tapia is but a hop, skip and a jump from the main part of Malibu Creek State Park where my video “Holy Week 3: Mountain Lions Ate Something Really Big!” was filmed.
Malibu Creek State Park Campground is about two miles from Tapia Public Use Area, on a direct line between Tapia and the spot in Malibu Creek State Park where I was filming on 16 April 2025.
David Gonzalez Camp School is about a third of a mile from Tapia Public Use Area.
King Gillette Ranch and the Santa Monica Mountains Headquarters and Visitor Center are about 2.5 miles from Tapia Public Use Area.
Thus it is good to be mountain-lion savvy while in those areas.
