Dear Ones,
Here is another seering question for Google AI. This one has to do with a personal experience I had at Platt Village, at the intersection of Victory Blvd and Platt, in the San Fernando Valley, about a month ago.
I asked Google AI: Is it ok for El Pollo Loco to let a man follow a woman into their restroom?
Google AI said: “It is not acceptable for any business, including El Pollo Loco, to knowingly allow someone to follow another person into a restroom in a manner that causes distress or fear … Such an action could constitute harassment, stalking, or a violation of privacy, depending on the specifics of the situation …
Businesses have a responsibility to provide a safe environment for their customers and to take action if they are aware of a potentially threatening or harmful situation occurring on their premises … If a customer reported such an incident, management would be expected to intervene, contact authorities if necessary, and support the victim …
If you witnessed or experienced such an incident, you can:
- Report it immediately to the manager or staff at the El Pollo Loco location …
- Contact local law enforcement if you believe a crime has been committed or if you feel unsafe… You can find local police contact information through the San Jose Police Department’s official website.
- File a complaint with El Pollo Loco’s corporate office to formally report the behavior and management’s response.”
Then I asked Google AI: What should I do if a man follows me into the women’s restroom at the El Pollo Loco in Pratt Village?
Google AI said: “If a man follows you into the women’s restroom and you feel unsafe, your priority is to secure your safety first by immediately removing yourself from the situation, alerting others, and contacting the police. Trust your instincts if something feels wrong.
Immediate Actions
- Leave the restroom immediately: Exit the restroom and head to a busy, well-lit area inside the restaurant where there are other people or employees.
- Yell for help: Make a scene and draw attention to yourself. Yell “Help me!” or use your voice as a weapon to alert others to your situation and potentially scare off the person following you.
- Alert restaurant staff: Immediately find a manager or employee and explain what happened. They can assist in contacting security or law enforcement and can provide a statement.
- Call the police: Use your cell phone to call 911 immediately. Tell the operator you are being followed and are scared for your safety. Provide your exact location (El Pollo Loco in Pratt Village, Yuba City, CA) and a description of the individual.
- Do not go to an isolated location: Avoid going to your car, home, or any other private or remote area until you are completely sure the person is no longer following you and you feel safe.
Preventative Measures (If in the stall)
- Lock the stall door: Always lock the stall door immediately upon entering.
- Have your phone ready: Keep your cell phone easily accessible (not in a bag on the floor) so you can call for help discreetly if you can’t leave the stall.
- Be aware of surroundings: Before entering the restroom, be aware of who is around and if anyone seems to be paying you unusual attention.
The main goal is to get to safety and involve law enforcement. Let the authorities determine the intent and take the appropriate action.”
Alice’s Analysis: Google AI’s Immediate Action number 1 is what I did. It was the first time in my life that anything like this had happened, except for one time a long time ago when a man walked into a woman’s room full of women, did a painful double-take, and walked back out again.
This case was different, though. I had a concern that the man who followed me might have thought me homeless and for that reason, fair game. I will be looking into that in another post.
As for me, in future here in the San Fernando Valley, I will avoid the restrooms at Platt Village, as I had a psychic impression of similar expectations at the Carls Junior across the street from the shopping center this last weekend. A psychic impression is not good enough for most folks, but it is plenty too much for me.
In love, light and joy
