Dear Ones,

Late last night (Sunday, 18 December 2023 PT) it seemed that the X-flare whose impact on Earth was expected this weekend must have slid right by without causing a geostorm.

Then very early this morning (Monday, 18 December 2023 PT) there were 2 geostorm alerts: Kp=5, and Kp=6. Is the X-flare just beginning to impact Earth?

Winter solstice is just 3 days from now, on 21 December 2023. Could this be the anticipated Winter Solstice Salvo from our Sun?

Dear Ones,

An X-flare is expected to impact Earth at noon today, Saturday, December 16th, with a resulting G2-class or G3-class geostorm.

The X-flare has combined with other CMEs. The geostorm may continue through Sunday, December 17th. If the storm reaches G3 level, then auroras may be seen at mid-latitudes.

From a mid-latitude map predicting aurora visibility for a geostorm earlier this year, it looks to me like auroras might be seen in Seattle, Omaha, Chicago and New York and north of there. In the next two tiers of states beneath these it is possible that auroras may be seen on the northern horizon.
