Dear Ones,
Lately my ‘head brain’ has gotten a yen to make friends with my gut brain (1). These two brains have really different qualities …
My head is… well…. a cerebral thinker…. an intellectual thought center. Philosophy, science, spirituality, politics, morality, discrimination, censorship, time and space, all that important stuff….
My gut brain? Setting aside the gender bender, it’s a little more like the singer Tom Jones… It’s all about down-to-Earth stuff: Staying alive. Getting it on. Being on top of everything.
No doubt about it, if I want unity, I figured, I’m going to have to woo my gut brain. I started a couple of days ago. First I tried coddling, ‘cozying up’ talk whenever I got a gut brain message. It went like this:
‘Dear One, I looooove you! You’re my little bundle of joy!” This worked right well for me. I expect the wording might vary wildly from person to person, though. I know of someone who uses the words ‘Bring it on!’ Whatever it is, it just needs to be something that really grabs you.
Just for fun, I’ve composed a ‘woo my gut brain’ scenario. In the video below, imagine the gut brain is Aretha Franklin and the head brain is the gent to whom she’s singing:
Video: “Aretha Franklin – Think (feat. The Blues Brothers) – 1080p Full HD,” Juanjo de Goya, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vet6AHmq3_s ..
So this is my gut brain talking to my head. Do I listen, usually? No, I don’t. I keep on typing, or cleaning house, or talking to a friend. So now my gut brain pipes up again… Sudden role reversal: Gut brain is Patrick Swayze, and gut brain is really hoping that head brain will cop to being Jennifer Grey:

And… The head brain perks up. Takes the hands off the computer. Turns the vacuum cleaner off…. Sudden lull in the conversation with that 3D friend… Mulls it over for a mo’. And… tentatively… begins to sing this song to the gut brain. In the video, the head brain is Nat King Cole, and the gut brain is the audience, clapping:

Huge step in the right direction! The gut brain is totally stunned. Incredulous… This from a WASP? Way??
So day by day, the head brain keeps on wooing. A little hug here, a “You’re my cup of tea, gut brain,” there… And what do you know? In just a few days a new state of existence asserts itself. My gut brain and I are best friends! I’m not pretendin’, dear ones, it feels a lot like the song below. In the video, the head brain is Celine Dion and the gut brain is the enthusiastic chorus. And, miracle of miracles, both are the ‘United State of Alice’:
