SIMPLY PREPOSTEROUS
A Story by Alice B. Clagett
16 November 2014

When I was a young child,
just learning English,
one of my uncles used to ask me
to recite this:

“Simply preposterous, said the hippopotamus!”

and then,
regardless of the degree of my success,
he would smile encouragingly
and hand me a lollipop.

. . . . .

Here is my Grandmother Berry’s favorite song!

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars
