… is a stand, I think, of red shank …

And red shank is very rare, here in the Santa Monica Mountains. There are some stands here, near the Cold Creek Canyon Preserve, off of Stunt Road. The only other stand I know of, in this area, is off of the Mishe Mokwa Trail, off of Yerba Buena Road, near Malibu, which near the western end of the Santa Monica Mountains.

So I am viewing a very rare and delightful inhabitant of this valley near Cold Creek Canyon Preserve.
