Dear Ones,

Here is a referral regarding criminal justice that was, in its day, groundbreaking. I feel it is a touchstone for those who wish to improve felon rehabilitation and to implement restorative justice here in the United States, The abstract is here …

Citation: “The Psychology of Punishment,” by Charles Berg, 1945, British Journal of Medical Psychology, Wiley Online Library … https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.2044-8341.1945.tb00766.x ..

The important thing to remember is that the desire to punish a criminal may be detrimental to society in the long run.

If a criminal learns no new options for making a livelihood while in prison, then release from prison can only mean resumption of a life of crime. This is costly in various ways to his new victims and also costly to the cohesiveness of a community.

Rehabilitation and reintegration in a positive way into the community is, I feel, the better approach. When a criminal has a chance to re-integrate into society and to make a positive contribution to his or her community, then that is win-win for both sides.

In love, light and joy
