Dear Ones,
MY EXPERIENCE AT A PENTECOSTAL CHURCH
I went to a Pentecostal church service yesterday morning, first time ever. It was quite an education. The people there were … though they may not have thought it through consciously … training themselves to use their right brain instead of their left brain. Why? According to them, faith in Jesus, love of Jesus, will save them from demons and devils.
TESTIMONY ABOUT FIGHTING A DEMON WITH THE BIBLE
For instance, one gentleman gave testimony that he had had a dream … he was walking down by a river, reading his Bible. There were other people there too. Suddenly a demon appeared. He called on the authority of Jesus, and swatted the demon with his Bible. The demon fell down. But then many more demons appeared. So, in Jesus’ name, he bound and rebuked them, one by one. He demonstrated this for us, how he felt and what he did in the dream, and it really brought the scene to life for me. Afterwards, the preacher explained the lesson of the testimony: All life’s struggles can be resolved by faith in Jesus. His love will protect and preserve us through our darkest hour.
MORE ABOUT THE CHURCH SERVICE
From there on, things got a little wild and woolly, at least according to my expectations from long attendance at more staid church services. People were shouting and swaying. One young girl almost fell down in a swoon. Folks would come up and grab my hand or my head and pray with me, in Jesus’ name. It was an amazing experience … the feeling of religious fervor in the air, the devotion of the congregation to Jesus.
PENTECOSTALS APPEAL TO THE EMOTIONAL BODY RATHER THAN THE MENTAL BODY
After the church service, I got to thinking about the Pentecostals, what they are actually doing. There was not one logical thought in that service. The effect of the sermon was on the emotional body, not the mental body at all. At the time, I could feel the intensity of mental activity in my right brain (1). And this, together with the ‘Stroke of Insight’ TED video (2) by Jill Bolte Taylor I had recently viewed, got me to thinking about how I’ve been living my life in an almost exclusively left-brain way.
ON BEING OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE EMOTIONS
No wonder I’ve been feeling out of touch with all that is. Having trouble simply feeling my body, feeling the world around me. Unable to remember my dreams. Feeling driven by my To Do list. Feeling out of focus. Not taking the time to connect with Nature, or socialize with my friends. Some way to live life!
VISITS FROM JESUS AND THE ASCENDED MASTERS
So this was an important insight. On further reflection, I realized how hard it was for me to attend the Pentecostal service, because I had to translate everything they said into my own terms. In the past, when I’ve attended Assembly of God religious services, I’ve felt a very close association, like an identification with or absorption in Jesus the Christ as the Son of God. But very loving ascended masters have visited me as well, so, great though Jesus is, I don’t think of Him as the only way to Unconditional Love.
I’m not calling the Pentecostal belief wrong here, for it has clearly served a very important purpose in allowing folks to escape from 3D duality … from the presence of demons here on Earth, which was a very real concern, for those familiar with the astral plane, prior to The Shift … and into a consciousness of Universal Love. But on the other hand, for me, The Christ is but one path to that Love, though a very great path for many, and for me in particular.
ON JESUS CASTING OUT DEMONS THROUGH THE HOLY GHOST
So, getting down to it, when the Pentecostals say that by faith in and love of Jesus we will feel the descent of the Holy Ghost and all demons will be cast out, I translate like this:
On Stilling the Left Brain Through Love of God
By concentrating my awareness on my right brain, I can open my heart chakra to the love of the Divine, and in so doing, I can still my left brain activity. This will allow me to feel what the Hindus called Prakriti; known by Western physicists as the quantum energy field. And it will still the left-brain process of separating my ego from all that is. And the equally disgruntling left-brain process of dividing reality … which is actually one quantum field … into good and bad, godly and demonic, right and wrong, pro-Alice and against-Alice, socially acceptable and faux pas, etc etc.
EXPERIENCE OF PLACING AWARENESS ON THE RIGHT BRAIN
Last night I tried it out. Lying on the couch, cat purring by my side, I placed my awareness on my right brain. All of a sudden, everything shifted. No more small voice in my head, complaining and criticizing and diverting me from my beingness. Immediately, I became vividly aware of the colors in the room. It was almost like I could taste them. I sensed my body, my whole body, in the way that I suspect my cat does. I felt tension here, discomfort there. The minute I felt these, the tension and discomfort went away. I lost my sense of ego. It was as if I had become one with all that I sensed. I, the cat, the room, all one being. Wow!
ACTIVITIES THAT PROMOTE RIGHT-BRAIN THINKING
I like this new way of using my brain so much that I hope to practice it all day today. I can see why walking in nature is good: For sure, it will help establish me the right-brain pattern. And there are other things I can do to encourage my right brain, such as drawing or painting, yoga, cooking, listening to music. Maybe I could resume martial arts. Or take up gardening. Anything, really, to escape that tyrannical left-brain!
BENEFITS OF BALANCING THE HEMISPHERES OF THE BRAIN
Given time … say, a week or so … concentrating on the right brain may allow the halves of my brain to balance back together, as they no doubt were meant to do. Maybe I will find my way back to that joie de vivre I felt as a tiny child (3). What fun!
