Dear Ones.

Here is a tidbit for the budding shaman … raven onomatopoeia? I have heard grown-up ravens patiently teaching their young how to warn the flock of hawks circling overhead, and of the number of hawks in the air nearby (by the number of calls ‘hawk!’).

It seems to me the raven on the telephone pole in this video may be a young raven, trying to learn ‘motorcycle’ onomatopoeia, and that the 2 ravens near the end of the video may be humoring me by repeating my tentative caws (as I have found ravens to do in the past).

I have noticed that some gruff grown-up males … what I might call the elder ‘wiseman’ raven in a flock … have a mocking tone of voice when I try to speak raven with them. I get I am a good deal more dense then their somewhat scatterbrained young ones, whom they patiently teach and bring along to the understanding and language of the flock. But all that is for another day.

This is relatively raw footage of raven talk from Paramount Ranch. There is no Summary after the video …

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

[Raven imitating motorcycle sound.]

This is a little like a really spooky raven call I heard from a huge flock of ravens the day before yesterday. They all sounded like they were just really mean ravens … a flock of cruel, rogue [ravens].

Can you hear it [the raven, despite the motorcycle sound]? [Motorcycles depart.]

Alice: Dude … Caw, caw, caw!

Raven: Caw, caw, caw!

Alice: Dude … Caw, caw!

Raven: Caw!

[Raven and motorcycles … rough sounding.]

Raven: Caw, caw, caw, caw, caw!

Alice: Can you hear a kind of meanness?

Alice: Caw, caw!

Raven: Caw, caw, caw!

[Clearly, we aren’t connecting.]

Alice: Wow, look at you!

Raven: Caw, caw, caw, caw [regular sound], caw [motorcycle sound].

Raven [motorcycle sound]: Caw, caw, caw. Caw, caw, caw, caw. Caw, caw, caw.

[Another scene: Ravens are making rough cawing sound.]

Alice: Caw, caw! … Caw, caw! … Caw, caw!

Raven 1: Caw, caw!

Raven 2 [younger, learning to speak?]: Caw, caw!

Raven 1: Caw, caw!

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars
