Forest Devas versus Dryads (Tree Spirits)

You know, some people say that there is such a thing as ‘Tree Spirits’ or ‘Dryads’ …

… and that there is another such thing called ‘Devas of the Forest’.

… and that the Devas of the Forest are much more grand than Tree Spirits; that a Tree Spirit is the one that cares for a particular tree …

… and that Devas of the Forest care for the entire forest …

Tree Spirit or a Forest Deva?

Now, in my work I sometimes see a particular Light shining through the leaves of a tree … the sunlight … and it seems to be different for different types of trees … and for different trees of the same type, sometimes, although I see an overall similarity for trees of the same type, such as oak trees …

And I always think of that as the Devas of the Forest shining through. But sometimes it seems more personal, and I term it the Tree Spirit or the Dryad of a particular tree.

It seems to me possible that Tree Spirits (or ‘Dryads’) are the juvenile forms of the Devas of the Forest, just as ‘Baptismal Sylphs’ are the juvenile forms of the types of angels I call ‘Baptismal Seraphim’.

I have to admit that these terms … ‘Devas of the Forest’, ‘Tree Spirits’, and ‘Dryads’ … are in flux for me right now. It might be the one or the other. And maybe you will have your own good ideas that you can comment on at the bottom of the blog. I would be very interested in your opinion.

Nature Spirits as Artists

In addition, sometimes I see what seems to be nature spirit art in the trunks of trees, as if the nature spirits charged with the care of the trees encountered other beings such as animals and people …

COMMENTS: It looks to me like the jacaranda tree spirit created these images out of fondness for some brownies and gnomes and elves that live in the forested back yard across the street, and also maybe for one man that may have lived nearby at one time.

… in their long lives and wanted to remember them and memorialize them as images somewhat reminiscent of these people … portraits of these people and animals … in the trunks of the trees.

My blog categories Devas … Nature Spirits … and the overarching category Devas – Nature Spirits – Nature Elementals … are especially friendly, I feel, for children.
