Dear Ones,

Here is a video on finding happiness. After the video is an edited Summary …

Hello, Dear Ones,

Holy Spirit Retreat Center Walking Circle

I am here at the beautiful meditation gardens of the Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Los Angeles …

and I thought I would show you a few of the highlights as I walk around, before we get down to talking about ‘Whose Kind of Happiness Is This, Anyway?’ That is the topic, but here is the walk …

[shows angel statue] … There is the entrance. [Shows arbored walkway.] … There is a peace post there … [statues of cherubs] … I think this might be Saint Joseph’s memorial here [shows wooden statue, and small figurines at his feet.] … [Shows walkway and benches.} …

[Shows a big circle of stones on the ground. It it a medicine wheel. (?)] I am not too sure what this is. There are signs on the ground that say ‘N’, ‘S’, ‘E’ and ‘W’ … ‘north’, ‘south’, ‘east’, and ‘west’. And there are little … I will show you. [Shows a small circle of stones, with beautifully painted rocks inside it.] See? It looks like some folks have painted some rocks with beautiful religious symbols. And here are some more. Wow! [Shows another small circle of stones with beautifully painted rocks inside it.]

The wind is coming up, and there are three wind chimes, and here is this wind chime. [Shows wind chime in tree.] Listen! Sometimes the wind chimes talk to each other!

And then, as you come back around the walkway, here are these beautiful plants in bloom. [Shows what look like two beautiful pink bromeliads.]

And over here, there is a very nice place to sit. [Shows a circle with a cast-iron circular table and four cast-iron chairs in it.] See? Sunlight is getting in the way a little bit. I believe I will sit here for a while, and maybe we can talk.

Whose Happiness Am I Living?

The topic right now is: Whose happiness am I living? … Or words to that effect. And the reason this is a topic is because, over the course of the last 10 years or so, I have had a chance to really examine my ideas about happiness, and decide whether they were true or not.

And I found out that many of my ideas about happiness came from fairy tales that I read, and children’s books that I read, or that were read to me, when I was very young. And lots of times they did not fit the reality of me.

So I think it is good to think about that … to think about what really makes us happy. What do we really need? And what is happiness? Because a case could be made for breaking down happiness to the basic necessities, such as food, clothing, shelter, getting enough sleep, and having some friends around to depend upon, in times of trouble. It is a short list.

Does Happiness Depend on Attitude?

And Tom Kenyon makes another point about happiness. He says he thinks it just depends on attitude …

The Emotions of Appreciation and Surrender to the Divine Can See Us Through

Things can be very chaotic in our lives; and if we have an attitude of appreciation or gratitude, or an attitude of surrender and letting go, with regard to what is happening to us … with the trust that it is happening because the Divine has the best intentions towards us … those kinds of emotions and attitudes can create a sense that everything is ok, even if it flies in the face of the reality that we are seeing. You know?

And I agree with that, to a large extent. I think it is good to provide for ourselves, but when all else fails, that kind of attitude can see us through.

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars
