On the way to Lake Isabella, California

Sometimes I feel like a DC-3,
intent upon a trans-Atlantic flight,
touched down, most disconcertingly,
on wind-swept Ganderland
to have its engine tweaked

Only to find
wild poppies
dancing in a sea of green,
wafting their scent
across these idle wings.

BLUE-GREEN MEMORIES

on the way to Lake Isabella, California
27 June 2003

In June, the jacaranda tree
. . . steals heaven’s blue,
. . . and drops it at our feet

And hearts turn tenderly
. . . to that first Spring – when,
through starlit depths of space and time
we touched down, joyful, in this place –

And here we stand,
. . . between this dream, and that,
. . . of bliss unending,

taunted by a jacaranda tree
to walk once more on heaven.

Dear Ones,

I wrote this back when I was doing dream journalling, in the early 2000s. That was when I first began to realize how dreams are visions that reveal the metaphoric language of the subconscious mind …

As we dream, and the subconscious mind takes over, we are no longer capable of abstract thought.  The subconscious part of our mind nevertheless strives to express abstract concepts through the use of metaphors found in daily speech. The more trite the metaphor, the better, as far as the subconscious mind is concerned. Here is an example …

This morning I woke up with a wild dream about a truckload of candy I had bought wholesale. I had brought it to a store in hopes of realizing a profit. Some strange little boy was giving it away for less than the price at which I bought it, and I was trying to stop him … to no avail.

I had a hard time figuring out this dream. What could it have been about?

Then I realized: Don’t give away the candy! … My subconscious mind is clearly not in favor of free love.
